Impressive work @ellybakeram.bsky.social @carolinerussell.bsky.social ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘

The failure to regulate uneccessary and dangerous supersized SUVs at a national & international level is leaving city leaders with little choice but to take a stand and do all they can to end #carspreading on our streets.

A new kind of gentrification is spreading through London โ€“ and emptying out schools | Anna Minton Thanks to โ€˜placemakingโ€™, thriving communities are hollowing out, to be replaced by luxury apartments and expensive restaurants, says author Anna Minton

"...children are the canary in the coalmine for what is happening to our cities. When the city is no longer able to cater to children... places donโ€™t die, but neither are they truly alive."

Just ignore all the myths about low traffic neighbourhoods: theyโ€™re popular, effective and here to stay | Izzy Romilly After the high court ruled one high-profile scheme unlawful, it is important to make the case for LTNs. Luckily, there is a strong one to make, says Izzy Romilly of climate charity Possible

Opposing LTNs doesn't make you a 'culture war' petrol-head. Just look at what happened in Lambeth | Joseph Harker For five years residents have complained about traffic being pushed on to other roads. Finally theyโ€™re being listened to, says Joseph Harker, the Guardianโ€™s senior editor, diversity and development

Seen this @peterwalker99.bsky.social? www.theguardian.com/commentisfre...

Senior @theguardian.com Editor pulls every Telegraph anti LTN bingo trope going. A long rant strong on Harker's opinions stated as if fact but very short on actual evidence. It's shameful Strawman rubbish frankly.

Tony Blair says current net zero push 'doomed to fail' The former PM's call for a change of course is rejected by Downing Street but welcomed by the Tories and Reform.

Another dodgy dossier from Blair.

In reality people are being forced to live with crap services (bus cuts anyone?) and wait for huge daily cost savings and jobs in green industries thanks to this kind of visionless hogwash. #GreenNewDeal

Britain needs houses, and Labourโ€™s bold plan will address that. But it may require more migrants | Polly Toynbee Ministers are ready to be relentless over planning reform. There is a skills gap though โ€“ and they must be brave enough to fill it, says Guardian columnist Polly Toynbee

Planning permission for 300,000 homes in London extant, not built. Ludicrous to blame planning. @pollytoynbee @theguardian.com

Anyway.. housing crisis is not about building. It's about affordability +OBR confirms building homes will not reduce house prices.

'British Steel can't be a one-off. Labour should nationalise more key services' - LabourList Our public services are essential, natural monopolies, just as much critical national infrastructure as British Steel. The government should step in to protect them.

Why are we letting other countries profit from our essential public infrastructure?

TfL has a plan to speed up Londonโ€™s buses โ€” but itโ€™s doomed to fail for this reason Average bus speeds in London have reached a ten-year low. Despite promises and targets to speed buses up, no progress has been made.

London's bus speeds are at an all time low. It's time to #FreeTheBus. Bus lanes, bus gates, 'blue paths'.

Here's my piece on why TfL's plans to rely on traffic light signal changes won't work.

Government owned car parks could hold the key to 110,000 new homes Study highlights public sector-owned car parks could raise a potential ยฃ6 billion in land sales for HM Treasury.

National and local government in the U.K. owns 7,555 hectares of surface car parks. That's enough land to build 2.1 million low-cost homes...

..where people would not have to finance car ownership

At Peopleโ€™s Question Time last week, a woman bravely shared her story of losing her partner to road violence.

A graphic showing how much wider cars are getting and especially in the SUV market

A graphic showing how much wider cars are getting and especially in the SUV market

Cars are getting 1cm wider every two years. That may not sound much, but over time it adds up, and they're showing no signs of slowing down ๐Ÿ˜ฌ

That's #carspreading. Our new campaign is calling on city leaders to make parking policies fairer by varying costs based on the size of a car.

Why? ๐Ÿงต1/8

'we will build more sustainable homes and create places that increase climate resilience without weakening environmental protections.'

Is it any wonder people have zero faith in politicians?
