He's either put too much faith in McSweeney and Doyle and he's a very bad judge of character or he's compromised and is doing the bidding of influential people outside of the party (country*).
Or both.
*It'd be interesting to see if McSweeney and/or Doyle have any affiliations to Israel.
I'm guessing that McSweeney and Doyle persuaded Starmer to delegate hiring responsibilities to them. This is why the Labour Party is in a complete mess.
