London Assembly statistics on pedestrians injured at floating bus stops vs pedestrians injured by motorists across the same time frame (2020-2022).
5 over a 3yr period vs 11,400 pedestrians injured over the same time frame by motorists.
But it wouldnβt be a scumbag Tory if they didnβt try to focus on something that rarely happens over something that happens every single day without fail.

Wandsworth (going NOC) and Merton (going LibDem) changing won't be surprises ... the Labour admin in Wandsworth has been disappointingly cautious, and in Merton Labour has belatedly woken up to the forthcoming election in the last month.

"Conclusion: there is a significant overall increase (+21%) in average 85th percentile speed when comparing the 2013 and 2018 survey data. The 85th percentile speed is 27mph, compared to 22mph recorded in 2013"

When he cites Exhibition Road as an example, he's also wrong: RBKC admitted a few years back that the #20mph scheme failed with vehicle speeds now faster than before the crazy paving was installed

Map of the Thames Valley west of London, showing bus routes between the towns and villages. Blue routes by the Go Ahead bus company, Red by First, Green by Stagecoach, Light blue by Arriva, other colours by other operators. The width of the coloured line indicates the typical frequency of the service - thickest lines have a bus at least once per hour.
Discovered a wonderful project by Brendan Fox* www.busatlas.uk who has/is drawing maps of inter-urban bus routes across England & Wales, split into regional-ish PDFs, e.g. Thames Valley www.busatlas.uk/busatlas10_t...

Working Paper 34866
DOI 10.3386/w34866
Issue Date February 2026
Modern smartphones present new threats to road safety beyond talking and texting, but the real-world effects are difficult to study. One way to causally assess the impact of smartphones on road safety is to identify arbitrarily timed events during which smartphone-related distraction may exogenously increase β i.e., a situation that relies not on plausibly random variation in who uses smartphones while driving, but when smartphones are used. We investigated the impact of smartphones on road safety by examining traffic fatalities on days when smartphone use likely surges: the release of major music albums. Using event study analysis, we show that music streaming β an indicator for smartphone use, where streaming most often occurs β sharply increases, by nearly 40%, on dates of major music album releases, while U.S. traffic fatalities increase by nearly 15% on those same days. Mobile device use while driving is a known safety issue, but todayβs smartphones present new and greater opportunities for driver distraction. Our study indicates how features of these phones may have important impacts on distracted driving and traffic fatalities.
On days when major albums are released, people use music streaming services on their smartphone 40% more, and U.S. traffic fatalities increase by 15% www.nber.org/papers/w3486...
