It was so great to meet @revkin.bsky.social in person this spring, after meeting him virtually several years ago to talk about climate data representation. #ShowYourStripes day, June 21st, what do your Warming Stripes look like?

It’s a gray, rainy, basement-flooding day - but working on a batch of color cards always proves oddly soothing.
We will be partnering with the Mid-Hudson Library System and knitters throughout the Hudson Valley to create the biggest Tempestry Collection to date: 130 years of climate data fiber art, to be exhibited throughout the Hudson Valley over the next year. FAQ: www.tempestryproject.com/mid-hudson-l...
It is slushing out this cold gray Saturday morning, but we’ve got five years of the MHLS Tempestry Collection on our work table and feeling pretty excited about that! ❤️

Eight years ago this week, the Tempestry Project started on our kitchen table in Anacortes, WA. We didn't have a name for this idea yet, but we knew that we needed to engage with people in an emotional, engaging, non-confrontational way about the cost of ignoring the climate crisis.

Such a depressing week, in terms of climate and so many other things. Thanks for resharing this, and for having us the show!
Welcome! (We’re new here ourselves and slowly getting the lay of the land 💕)
I do this through Libby all the time, mostly for older books that maybe aren’t huge bestsellers but deserve a bigger audience, including myself. It’s super easy to just click ‘Notify me’ which in turn notifies the library that there is interest in this title.
You can say, “gravity isn’t real,” but if you step off the cliff, you’re still going down.
And if you convince other people it’s not real, you are responsible for what happens if they make decisions based on the information you withheld.
I don’t know, but if I weren’t an atheist I’d be praying for my trans partner and stepson right about now. We’re lucky though, living in a relatively progressive town in New York, with supportive jobs and communities. My heart breaks for so many fighting this from more difficult circumstances. 🙁
He is also saying he’s going to force Denali to revert back to being called Mount McKinley. White supremacy and colonialism in action….
We’ve of course found that knitting climate data within communities is both heartbreaking and cathartic — and always a spark for conversations. Much better than doom scrolling (though we do a fair amount of that still too). Just really hoping we’ll be able to keep doing this work.
Libraries and the people who dedicate their lives to working in them are amazing. Committed to knowledge, equity, accessible, learning, the public good. We often collaborate with libraries, and are so grateful for them. ❤️
What an amazing project! Thank you for sharing this, Shirley!

Just saw that you’re a knitter… we don’t knit civics, but we do knit global warming — and work with communities to knit their own local climate histories for public display. Always looking for more knitters… ❤️
Amused and honored to be in the Wikipedia listing for Craftivism. 😂
