We really should all be circulating the George Lucas apology form.

No one in the foreign policy blob ever believed Iraq would attack the US with WMD. But they did have a rational concern, which was an Iraq with WMD could deter the US & Israel from *attacking them* whenever we wanted. As Marco Rubio just explained that's also our worry with Iran:
It's the best they can do so not faulting the effort but even if we take it at face-value you still have a majority that don't favor the overthrow of the regime (41%). I just think that anyone claiming for sure that they know what the majority of people in Iran think can't really make that claim.
I'm not saying this isn't possible, but it is very difficult to know that. The best survey I could find is linked below and I think the online snowball sampling could result in bias. The unweighted sample drastically over-represents educated urbanites.

Every single person in the entire chain of command that massacred the schoolgirls in Minab, and that is currently carpet bombing Iranian civilians, needs to be tried and jailed in The Hague. Sick, depraved monsters drunk on imperial hubris.
This is a chilling crime. A shame on our country. The Iranian ship was unarmed. The US knew this. The sailors were murdered by our navy, and the survivors were left to die at sea.

This is the end-game. They want to engineer Syria inside of Iran. Years of war. Millions dead.
Iran, Israel, Lebanon, the UAE, Qatar, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Oman, Jordan, Iraq, and Cyprus. That's 12 countries that have suffered human casualties or material damage since this war started. US-Israeli aggression is out of control and dragging the entire region into chaos. Disaster.

I think about this Tony Benn speech much more than I used to
If Trump arms the Kurds to try to create a civil war in Iran, we can be sure what will happen next: Turkey or Iraq or Syria will get mad about it & we'll let the Kurds get slaughtered. This exact scenario has played out at least eight times in the past 100 years: theintercept.com/2019/10/07/k...
Israeli map showing all of southern Lebanon in red with yellow arrows pointing to north of the Litani river
The IDF just ordered the *entirety of south Lebanon* to be forcibly displaced.
They are emptying the land of its population, creating a massive crisis, and will now proceed to further annihilate large parts of Lebanon.
The very nation state of Lebanon is being destroyed.

Wars can be fought "forever" eh? I suppose we could call it a forev...wait a minute.

Thank you Mr. President for keeping us safe!
"Islamic Republic 2.0" - knew immediately who was writing this one.
"I can't find any reason to celebrate the assassination of the Iranian supreme leader because I think it's part of a package ... It's also part of the killing of Iranian innocent people," says Behrooz Ghamari-Tabrizi, a longtime critic of the Iranian government.
Ah well, blocked because of course. Anyway- for posterity
Of course the Islamic Republic is interested in economic wellbeing for their people. Why else do you think they were willing to negotiate over their nuclear program for sanctions relief?
This is the kind of orientalist comment that ignores that Iran has been behaving like a rational actor in its dealings with Israel and the US for decades but passes for wisdom among many of the journalist class.
You know, most people go their whole lives without murdering dozens of young girls at school.
Headlines moved on quickly from the schoolgirls in Minab. We donโt know their names; no media profiles about their lives and aspirations. No smiling photos attached to quotes from mourning families.
How unfair that some dead are memorialised while others are relegated to โestimated casualties.โ
Trump & Co have been talking about US military action for weeks, if not months, and positioning the assets to do it - long before such intelligence ever could have become a factor. This is transparent nonsense.
Yeah. Been expecting this since Gaza really.
This is a reckless and disappointing statement by @mark-carney.bsky.social.
Canโt talk about the need for a new world order and then back illegal war mongering.
The limits of European and other Western countriesโ resistance to Trumpโs policies is illustrated starkly here. So long as you partner with the one ME state credibly accused of genocide everything you do is just fine and dandy!
