No-one gets to whinge about captive plastic caps on bottles* UNLESS they can objectively demonstrate a prior history of whingeing about captive ring-pulls on cans, which were introduced for exactly the same reason several decades ago.
*A very good thing to do, by the way.

A fine addition to my library. Acquired in Johannesburg for the princely sum of R9.

Beware of this image allegedly showing Renee Good's criminal record A screenshot purportedly showing the "rap sheet" of 37-year-old Good, whom an ICE agent fatally shot in early January 2026, listed her age as 44.

❌ No, a screenshot spread online doesn't authentically show the criminal record of Renee Good. Beware the image spreading online: www.snopes.com/fact-check/r...

Creationism in the classroom: does it matter? Kitzmiller 20 yearsΒ on December 20 was the 20th anniversary of the day on which Judge John Jones III handed down his decisive ruling that Intelligent Design was a version of creationism and as such could not be taught within the publicly funded US school system. Here I lay out why I think that the ruling is not necessarily secure, review what is at stake, and argue that it matters very much indeed.

I was always confused by the second line of the hymn "There is a green hill far away", where 'outwith' rather than 'without' would have made much more sense. My child brain could never understand why this hill wasn't surrounded by its very own city wall.

A career break or sabbatical is a great thing, and should be a normal part of a working life. I only got mine after a mental health crisis.
Glad things are getting better for you.

My RTW ritual was to group by sender, then I could block-delete the crap. Usually less than 10% required any further attention.

Trump's "Executive Orders" are, in plain English, diktats, which makes him ... er ... a diktator? Have I got that right?
