Meanwhile a strong, multi-vortex tornado in Union City, Michigan. Crazy to see the house get ripped awway likke nothing! Video from Meteorologist Will Haenni WWMT #Tornado #UnionCity #Michigan
hook slice!
The day didnβt stop there: I got absolutely rocked by 70+ mph winds in Grainfield, KS, and managed to drive through a developing circulation in Oakley. Full chase log ‡οΈ
From a 0% marginal day to a confirmed #supercell #tornado β sometimes the high plains over-deliverπͺοΈ
May 25, 2017 I caught this spinner in Yuma County, CO, on timelapse β Turretcam footage shows clear ground circulation (arrow) forming right on the inflow boundary. Full chase log link in π§΅

Everyone remembers Wray, but for a few the magic started in Eckley. May 7, 2016 I blasted east, betting on a #supercell cluster erupting near the state border. Just as I arrived this scene unfolded β a ghostly #tornado touching down north of Eckley, #Colorado πͺοΈ Full chase log link in π§΅

Please clean the ice and snow off your vehicles before driving!
Better than hiding use of ChatGPT but to me it implies that there was no attempt made at verifying accuracy. And for now LLMs are still excellent at being confidently wrong. At least with most Wikipedia articles there are humans constantly trying to fact check each other.
The US NSF has put out a "dear colleagues" letter that is essentially a yard sale list for @ncar-ucar.bsky.social
It asks questions such as, who'd like to take over some of NCAR's programs? Is anyone interested in commercial use of the Mesa Lab?
If you have thoughts, send them to NSF_NCAR@nsf.gov
Recording amounts <1" could get interesting if we're rounding
And even then it takes twice as long to back up because there are more unknowns with the wider temporal gap
Guess it depends on how many exterior cameras you have. I have to back up just enough to disrupt flow before I can see whether the way is clear
Gemini sez
> It is statistically safer to drive forward into a lane of traffic than to back into it, as your visibility is significantly better.
I'm not usually a backer-in but... Aren't you just doing the hard part / flow disruption before rather than after? And in doing so you just had the opportunity to assess the entire environment when backing in rather than after when you only have a tunnel-width view at best?
It's gonna be May πͺοΈ in 71 days. Tornadoes will again be roaming the Plains.
Flashback: May 17, 2019 I was chasing this monster #supercell near McCook #Nebraska. After a white-knuckle detour through a torrential rain core, I broke out just in time to intercept this EF-1 #tornado near Farnam.

This thread shows a deliberate defunding of U.S. science, engineering, social science, innovation, and education excellence. Itβs a U.S. national security, competitiveness, and economic disaster.
Exactly it's just authoritarianism full stop. Those of us who understand the difference need to get louder
A personal update from veteran French storm chaser and world-class filmmaker Chris Asselin‡οΈ
This has been a available for years through various services. I've assumed that Y'all Call = NWS warnings + Y'all warnings but haven't been able to confirm either way
There's a fair bit of coverage in my follows and a lot on my Plains Storms feed bsky.app/profile/did:...

Snow squall rolling into Laramie earlier this morning
I support Laramie! maps.app.goo.gl/TLFgS3xgbKf4...
This is fine
I assume these include his own Y'all warnings not only those issued by the NWS?
Great piece out today in Physics Today on historical origins, contemporary relevance, & fundamental irreplaceability of the National Center for Atmospheric Research, which remains at imminent risk of dismantling for partisan political reasons.
AMS is deeply concerned by the repeal of EPAβs 2009 Endangerment Finding, which concluded greenhouse gas emissions harm health and well-being. The science remains clear: human-caused climate change is already causing harmful impacts.
