Questions from strangers Strangers may ask if there’s an event going on, what you’re dressed as etc. I often just tell people if it’s a simple answer, however if it’s not I have a few go-to “excuses” to avoid getting into it with people, like: - school project - photoshoot - birthday party

Feeling the eyes on you Seeing people stare at you or feeling people’s eyes on you in a public spaces can be distressing. A distraction can be helpful. I usually take out my phone and text a friend, look around on social media, play a game, call someone or PRETEND to call someone… having something to engage with makes me feel more confident.

Easier in groups Of course there is safety in numbers, so if you can travel in a group with other cosplayers (or a non-cosplaying friend) that can feel a lot better! If you’re heading to an event connect with friends to plan the trip together.

My friends are lovely people and are human (and we're all autistic) so we do things without realizing it but we talk about it then bounce back to how things were before that 🥰

I did 100% cry and have a breakdown and I rarely do that in front of friends at a con. but they kept asking me if I was okay and I told them and they apologies and thanked me for telling them. They then kept checking in on me the rest of the weekend. Like my old friends?? Never could have done that

I cosplayed one day at kikori ans the dysphoria won. I ended up just comfy the rest of the weekend and my mental sate at the con improved a lot
