Day 28 (11pts)
🗣️ The Blue Nile
💿 Hats
🎶 Let's Go Out Tonight
🗓️ October 1989
My second favourite album of all time, I could have picked any track that wasn't a single (and none of those peaked above 50)!
Words can't do it justice. If you know, you know.
One of the best sequences of songs ever committed to tape… and that squall of guitar before its rips into Rebel Rebel…
Japan - Tin Drum. What a record.
A few of my copies…
One of the best LPs of all time…
David Sylvian “Brilliant Trees”
David Sylvian “Brilliant Trees”
#NowPlaying @davidsylvian.bsky.social’s magnificent “Brilliant Trees” album, released on this day in 1984, so 41 years ago. Where did the years go?
This is one of my favourite (and most played) albums of all time. Tonight, I will be drowning in my nostalgia. #80s #80sAlbums #DavidSylvian #MusicSky

The Other Side Of Life
Our house is livid with the fact that Switzerland gone zero public votes, it’s actually impossible for that to happen statistically…

“There's a sadness like I never knew
But I see the shining of things”
The twin sister of 'Waterfront' in many ways, with R. Sakamoto’s sublime string arrangements accompanying D. Sylvian’s vocals

💿 Gone To Earth
🎶 Taking The Veil
The opening track and lead single from Sylvian's third solo record is a funky number that travels at a glacial pace, yet never feels tired.
It failed to break the top 50 in the UK, but it's very dear to me.

When Love Walks In: Mick Karn ft. David Sylvian (1986)
From Mick's second solo album Dreams Of Reason Produce Monsters. The second of two songs featuring David, unlike Buoy this wasn't released as a single but easily could have been.

Pop Song (1989)
(album: single release preceding the Weathebox collection)
Angular, at times awkward, but at all times really melodic and playful. Just what you want from a (leftfield) pop song. A lovely bookmark to a very productive 1980s 👌

Day 4.
Never officially released, a beautiful song from the uncompleted project with Joan Wasser. If only they had finished the album and released it 🎶🙏.

Sylvian & Fripp, a magnificent pairing who I saw in concert in December 1993 🤩👌
Brightness Falls - a superb funky vibe ❤️🎶🎸

Before The Bullfight (1986)
(album: Gone To Earth)
The mesmerising and atmospheric anchor track from David's second, featuring some quite amazing percussion from Steve, who's Slope was given a lovely shout out earlier. Richard is also present 😊

1. Alien / Quiet Life (1980)
Bowing out with this, think this was a massive influence on the sound and vibe for the next couple of years.
Thanks to @top10nathan.bsky.social for another fun challenge.

Methods Of Dance | 1980
Second in a row from GTP and a song so good that Virgin Records named not one but two various artists compilation albums after it (but didn’t include this track in either comp).

Spitfire | 2013
Back to where it all started for me and the lead track from the War Room EP. I discovered this through hearing it on bbc6music and Spitfire was the first PSB track I heard.

Rhodesia | Obscure Alternatives | 1978
Not oft seen as a political outfit, Japan was Punk as the Pistols. Sylvian, teeth bare, against a jagged Reggae stomp, razor blade guitars, & Karn's 🔥 Funk. A satirical molotov of colonial critique, both dangerous & dreamy.
