as a freelancer it's understood you're signing away the work to the monolith who owns the site. that's the deal you take. but something's uniquely depressing about a third party coming through with a machine that vacuums THAT up and spits it out, saying "i, a sentient being, thought of this"

Just like everything else. Lot of folks, myself included, worked in the guide mines for years for tech like this to steal the work and sell you a subscription to the work they stole.

The tech behind this knows if the tab is asleep. In *theory* (and from some VERY quick testing myself) people can avoid this issue by adding twitch to this the "always keep these sites active" setting in Chromium browsers.

A pop-up on Twitch that says "Hey, come back! This commercial break can't play while you're away." "Avoid minimizing or muting Twitch for a better experience"

Oh, that's why my metrics have taken a dive recently - Twitch pushed a new update that doesn't count someone as a viewer if they don't have the Twitch tab in focus

RIP everyone who watches streams in the background, Twitch has no idea how people actually use their platform

i think it helps that the speaker quality is not fantastic and the voice is relatively chipper and cartoony so it literally always sounds like a toy is talking as opposed to a random guys voice in ur room. it makes me think of the talking bugs bunny and daffy duck toys i used to have growing up.
