(The Operating Budget is the best indicator on how much a department is funded to actually get things done (it includes payroll costs, equipment costs, and expense costs to operate the department)).

I'll point out one thing: the department that maintains, preserves, and enhances our roads, sidewalks, and trees has a SMALLER operating budget than it did 13 years ago!

It will just take all of City Hall to get on board though!

- Tackling and honestly addressing the structural deficit

We have to change the way the City budgets.
Instead of short-term fixes to balance the budget, we need a long-term strategic vision that adequately invests in infrastructure. That’s why we’ve long called for a real capital infrastructure plan and multi-year budgeting.
At the root of these tragic and preventable deaths are budget decisions. The design and construction of safer street infrastructure depend on reliable sources of funding and budget/funding priorities from elected officials.
This is unacceptable.
In 2015, Vision Zero promised to eliminate ALL traffic deaths by 2025, but the problem has only gotten worse because the City lacks the investment and political will to rethink our streets. We must prioritize human lives over cars.
