But, there's hope. There's always hope, and that's what we wanted to focus on:
the world working together to overcome the crisis.
If this happened today? Entire power grids would fail, oil pipelines would break, and the major internet cables would fry. Anything with copper? It'd be flooded with a direct current and overloaded. Satellite and dependent GPS systems would go down.
Chaos.
What was the Carrington Event?
In 1859, a coronal mass ejection (CME) from our sun resulted in a geomagnetic storm colliding with Earth. There was so much direct electrical current in our atmosphere that telegraph machines worked without being turned on. Electricity flowed down train tracks.
In short? Absolute and utter chaos, destruction, and a break down of society world-wide.
What if something like the Carrington Event happened now?
That was the question we decided to pose for First Moon of Mercury! So we talked to astrophysicists, astronomers, climate disaster specialists, and sociologists to see what they thought would happen.

We are delighted to be sponsoring the inaugural GDCheese event today. We hear it's sold out! Toronto is coming in strong.
Who will we be seeing this afternoon?
Who will we be seeing this Saturday?
Saturday! We'll be out looking at the sky.

- Which version of the headset software you are using
We are aware of a recent Meta update causing issues with the thumbs up gesture in the Broken Spectre tutorial.
We are currently investigating a fix and will post an update when we have a live solution.

On Feb 28th there will be a 6-planet alignment!
Mercury, Venus, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, and Neptune will all be visible, four of which can be seen without a telescope.

Surface Greebles Greebles should suggest that they perform a job to justify why they appear on the modules, but they should be designed in a manner so that they are not confused as being puzzle elements. Make them contrast less with the rest of the module than the interactable assets do Use simplified forms that do not have complex geometry Lean towards shorter/flatter designs so that they don't stick out from the surface as puzzle assets do Materials should blend them in with their surroundings Size can vary as we would like simple ways to individualize hulls but be sure to inversely balance size with complexity What jobs can they look like: Provide power Cable bundles/conduits Junction boxes Data and communication antenna dish Structural reinforcement (chunky, repetitive/symmetrical, load bearing) Frame braces and ribs Bolted plates Maintenance access (hints at human scale involvement) Handles for spacewalking astronauts Service hatches Warning labels (decal, actually) Thermal management Heat vents Insulation tiles Heat radiators
When designing greebles for the space station, we wanted to ensure they had a reason for being there.
We decided that there were five reasons for a greeble to exist:
- Power
- Data and Communication
- Structural Reinforcement
- Maintenance Access
- Thermal Management
