Before the winter storm. Our chickens get some grain each morning to augment all the critters they find around the farm. Our chickens are not pasture raised, they are forest raised. The forest provides a lot more diversity in protein sources because of all the decaying life.

Predators! Coyotes, bobcats, raccoons, and hawks can take out a flock of birds in under a week. Some are easier to dispatch than others. You earn a healthy respect for the circle of life when you are trying to protect your animals.
