Iβm always getting tripped up by half-rests
For folks who are interested, you can get 20% off my vinyl releases from ElasticStage until February 15 with code LOVE20. elasticstage.com/sockpuppet
Not to mention the issues of actually acquiring the training data, which typically involves a lack of consent and maximal extraction of data from every website on the planet.
I should clarify that this is my personal opinion of stuff (and I say that as someone who was participating in the deluge!) and not the overall consensus of the community.
Basically it felt like a relatively low-harm use of genAI as long as it stayed localized but it wasn't staying localized.
FWIW there had been a discussion on the Discord itself about it and there are multiple axes along which this could be good or bad. The training of the model itself is definitely bad, the running of it maybe not so much just because of scale, but the slop factor was definitely becoming a problem.
Hey yβall, itβs #bandcampfriday! I havenβt released anything new this time around but I *have* reduced the price of a bunch of my releases, and my discography remains heavily discounted. sockpuppet.bandcamp.com for what I think are some pretty good tunes!
Iβve posted a few more live recordings on the ol YouTube. youtube.com/@realfakesoc...
Not to mention the reputational damage being caused by the impression that Bandcamp didn't care about supporting actual musicians, especially after all of their post-acquisition issues.
It costs money for Bandcamp to host the slop that never sells, and while Bandcamp doesn't have much in the way of discovery it does have *some* discovery, particularly the "new releases" feed, which has been completely overrun by the slop.
reminder that I don't actually like corporate-controlled social media including bsky and if you want to follow me you should follow @fluffy.plush.city.ap.brid.gy or better yet just get yourself a mastodon account because mastodon sucks less than bsky
HAPPY NEW YEAR OF THE LINUX DESKTOP!!!

Have a very happy holiday! Here's a nice video from @transacademy.bsky.social using a bunch of music I made. www.youtube.com/watch?v=TlDU...
Anyway I have an entry this week, which I felt I *had* to do because how could I not mark my anniversary in this way?
Please go to songfight.org and listen to all the songs and vote for the ones you like the best, even if that doesn't include mine. And for bonus points, review 'em on the forum!
I have now officially been participating in @songfight.bsky.social for 25 years, or at least, this week marks the 25th anniversary of the title Zero To Phantom going up, and that title had just gone up when I first discovered the site. I didn't enter until the next title, I LOVE YOU.

Iβve been trying to take my music off Spotify but my previous distributor (TooLost) failed to remove it but did take it off literally every other streaming platform, and now theyβre stonewalling me. Fuck Spotify and fuck TooLost.
Itβs the last #bandcampfriday of the year, making it the best time to pick up some music by a neurodivergent transgender furry (but I repeat myself). sockpuppet.bandcamp.com
Thereβs about 25 yearsβ worth of releases in so many different genres, I canβt even begin to fit a proper description here.
It's BANDCAMP FRIDAY

Oh yeah strawberry jelly :9 (my soundtrack from Strawberry Jam 9) is also up now. Its visualizer is a lot more basic because I actually rendered these videos before Novembeat 2020 and Refactor. www.youtube.com/playlist?lis...
The playlist is unlisted because the videos are still trickling out.
Ideally I could just do something with LΓVE or something but it doesn't really have a good flow for doing offline video rendering. Or I suppose I could just roll my own shit in C++ and OpenGL but I left that world behind for a reason.
Really I think I need to find a better graphics rendering environment though. Something that supports bulk processing and offline conversion. At some point I'll try out ShaderFlow which looks super promising but like most artsy F/OSS software the documentation is... quirky.
ffmpeg filter_complex graphs can do some pretty amazing things if you set your mind to it and try to think of it in terms of the world's worst graphics programming language
the Novembeat 2020 one also turned out really good, incidentally. www.youtube.com/playlist?lis...
I haven't felt like working on novembeat for the last few days but on the plus side I've made a lot of progress on reuploading my music catalog to YouTube in a self-administered way. I'm super proud of the visualizer I built for Refactor, for example, all in FFmpeg! www.youtube.com/playlist?lis...
