A cross section of a recently lopped tree trunk. The colours include russet , brown and in the very centre, some white and brown which create an interesting outline which looks like an elephant face on. In the photo you can see part of the forest that the tree stands in, the bark covered in lichen and moss.

What do we have here?

This #forestfriday I see a freshly lopped tree with beautiful spalting. I think that's the correct term? Mycologists might be able to explain it better.

A Viking longboat dominates the image. It sits on the shore at the head of a fjord with a backdrop of mountains behind it. Over to the left on the fjord, in the distance, is a modern day cruise ship. I enjoyed the juxtaposition of the two very different vessels.
