I hate to think how much the entire archive might be worth. I would have loved to go to Bamberg and spend a month with the whole thing. Just the most amazing collection.

Make a change to have ice involved in the chess analogy. Watched a bit of it earlier, and, like in chess, you have a time control!!

One of my many Morphy 4 routes: I beat Ron Bruce, who beat Jacques Mieses, who beat Louis Paulsen, who beat Paul Morphy, all in tournament games.

A similar line is through Atkins who played casual games with Owen - who played Morphy at odds - iirc. I only count tournament games other than with Morphy's opponents, otherwise I would have Ritson - Atkins - Owen. There is a picture from the Anderssen - Morphy match with Mortimer there I think.

I ran a Leicester Poly team in the county league for a year and a half, and twice played Alf Lenton's son Philip. I've written about Alf, whom I later met twice on my Minor Pieces website.

See articles 58-64 for some of my articles about chess in Leicester.

Cricket's King Kong No cricketing nation will tolerate India's bullying tactics for long

β€˜The BCCI… have, like Trump, overreached. If they don’t learn to play nice with other members of the ICC from a position of strength, they will find out, like Trump’s America is starting to, that no country by itself can ever be the only game in town.’

Timman was also one of the people I missed most when leaving Chess twitter. He shared endgame studies he was working on and weekly quotes from other players on chess. Plus this gem: his cat Artemis with what appears to be an amazing collection of antique chess sets. I would love to see the rest

In 1927, Vera Menchik became the first Women's World Chess Champion at age 21 & is the longest-reigning women's champion in #chess history.

She defended the title 7 times, held it undisputed until her tragic death in 1944 at age 38 in a V-1 rocket bombing during #WWII. She was born #OTD in 1906.

Chess is, socially, a great game. Chess clubs are a social group, as well as a competitive one, imho.
