I am definitely going to have a nice, quiet, dark day today, so my brain doesn't rebel!
Thanks! Sometimes, if I'm lucky (and take my meds early enough), I can lessen the severity of an incoming migraine, before it really blows up and knocks me out. But then I have to be really careful over the next few days and try not to aggravate it, or it'll come right back! Brains are weird. π
Same! It was so wonderful connecting with you!
No worries! That was me yesterday. Lol.
Lol, same! And sure! I'm hanging out by the 304 rooms.
AJ should be signing books till 1, and again from 2-3!
I snuck up to the 3rd floor for some quiet time. The exhibit hall can get so loud!
Actually, I'm headed back to the Exhibit Hall now! I wanna go find AJ Sass!
Just a couple of autistic writers, wearing their sunglasses and flapping their hands! π
Steve! It was so great to see you!
I'm taking a lunch break at 12:30 if you want to chat!
4 middle grade books - Like a Charm by Elle McNicoll, Healer of the Water Monster by Brian Young, The Fire The Water and Maudie McGinn by Sally J Pla, and Pilar Ramirez and the Escape from Zafa by Julian Randall.
I've been working on a new writing project, and having so much fun. β¨
Next step: I'm going to be reading and re-reading and analyzing awesome books like these. β₯οΈ
P. S. I always share one of your Stimmy Kitty comics when I talk about autistic and neurodivergent authors, so it will be so cool to tell attendees that they can actually see you in person there at the conference! π±
There are a significant number of neurodivergent librarians out there, so I've never felt weird for being openly autistic at events like these. People tend to be very accommodating!
And I also take frequent breaks. I give myself permission to not stress about attending every little thing!
As an author panelist, you'll likely hang out with your publishing rep, who will escort you to and from the panel session.
And I totally get the sensory overload fears! The exhibit hall is huge, so I wore sunglasses and earplugs whenever I went in there for author signings.
I'm super late in seeing this, but I'll be presenting at the TLA Conference in April! It'll be my second time attending.
Last year, they had a "green room" available for presenters to prep in a quiet place, and a "chill zone" area with comfy furniture and sensory-friendly stuff to interact with.
Saving this so I can find other library folks to follow! π
If I had a nickel for every time someone watched Encanto and immediately texted me that Mirabel reminded them of me...
Well, as Doofenshmirtz said, I'd have two nickels, but it's weird that it's happened twice. π€£

And it's not just the physical resemblance (especially when I let my hair be curly and free!) - I've got the personality down, too.
An empathetic problem-solver who's also emotional, imperfect, and weird? This totally could've been written about me! π

It's officially September, so it's time to start prepping for Halloween! π
And I'm gonna be MIRABEL! πΈπ©·
(I meant to do this last year, but time just got away from me.) π
I am super excited about this cute dress I bought - with pockets! π±
