Real talk: Progressives have completely failed to adequately address the significant impacts of Long COVID, and this has left an opening for the far right to exploit vulnerable patients and deceitfully blame vaccines for all chronic illnesses.

42 people. millions of trans people are being tortured by their governments because of 42 people.

Pentagon spent more on lobster in one month than it did on trans health care all year Under Pete Hegseth's leadership, the Defense Department spent more than $90 billion in September alone.

This guy thought he’d never have to answer for his actions. There’s a lot of that going around. We have to hold ALL of them accountable.

A lovely mossy boulder with a face. I walked past this venerable stone gentleman on Dartmoor when I was beginning to write my first novel, Villager, and it whispered all 104,000 words of the book to me. So now I have to pay it all of my royalties. Unfortunately my ex-publisher stopped paying me royalties last year. Understandable, the boulder was not happy. But now I have a new publisher and the book is being republished this Thursday. So remember if you purchase a copy you will be helping a boulder to eat, pay the rent on his riverside moss garden, and feed his boulder family.

Yes it could be argued that keeping up with world events is important but alternatively can I interest you in hugging an ancient mossy boulder that looks like a face and quietly listening while it tells you stories from centuries cloaked in mist.

Just out @propublica.org: How did the Pentagon make the horrible mistake that left more than 150 school children dead? Perhaps because it cancelled an effort to limit such harm in favor of Hegseth’s lust for β€œlethality.”

I wish Hegseth would just say that he doesn’t care that he murdered 174 little girls rather than telling these stupid lies to cover up the fact that they disabled the intelligence officer that might have prevented this calamity

Heating oil prices in the UK have trebled in a week. 2 million homes, no price cap protection, no warning.

Heat pumps + solar are multiple times more efficient, don’t require an oil tank and oil deliveries and are an insurance against such frightening price spikes.

I returned my neuroscience grant to devote my career to the climate crisis US psychologist Adam Aron says it’s time to act to alleviate the devastating consequences of the planet’s current trajectory.

"I think many people in academia could do more if they wanted to. They could reorient part of their research line to the climate crisis in a similar way to how, during [WWII], many people repurposed themselves for the war effort. Or...be an activist or advocate."

Scientists Discover Way To Reverse Chemical Process Linked With Alzheimer’s Disease By watching Alzheimer’s-related protein clumping unfold second by second, researchers have uncovered new clues about the role of metal ions.

This amazing scientific advance may one day lead to either more effective treatments or dare I say perhaps a cure.
This is why it is vitally important to fund basic scientific research.

I like this analogy, and I'm going to try to figure out how to expand it to encompass the fact that at volumes greater than a sipβ€”a novel, a movie, even a three-minute video clipβ€”AI turns inevitably to bilgewater.

Trump is not the unfortunate victim of job β€œlosses”; he is destroying jobs, especially manufacturing jobs. And in savaging medical and scientific grants and going to war with universities, Trump is further undercutting one of America’s greatest sources of long-term growth and productivity

The CIA-backed coup against Prime Minister Mosaddegh which installed the Shah is also key for understanding why some Iranians invaded the U.S. embassy in 1979 (tragically taking the employees hostage). Many believed the prior coup was planned in the embassy and feared another would happen.

I don't think you have to Nostradamus to figure that bombing Iran might raise oil prices. And it seems pretty obvious that buying oil in advance of causing an oil price spike might just save Americans a lot of money. But...

...maybe there wasn't much planning?

Again, the unifying 🧡 about Trump’s foreign policy is not realism or neo-royalism. It’s the extension of sexual assault/predation/partner abuse to IR. If he thinks you’re his macho pal, he’ll respect you/your sovereignty. If not, he’ll try to violate you & humiliate you. Epstein-ism, if you like.

I bought a book on talking to kids about sex when my oldest was about six. First thing it said - the best thing you can do to prevent suicide in your kids is talk to them about people being gay like it’s normal. So we did. Worked great. Just wish we’d thought to include trans people in that!
