Yeah - "a good failure mode shows it has failed" is exactly right.

Aaaah, this is such a good point. I remember when you could easily tell something was translated by google. It was still very useful for deciphering a document in a language you donβt understand, but the wonkiness served as a useful reminder that it wasnβt entirely reliable.
On how it's dehumanizing:

Or if you prefer video:

It is dehumanizing. But itβs also so boring. π₯±
This is the same old argument as always. βWe are just stochastic parrots.β
As @emilymbender.bsky.social keeps pointing out, this is deeply dehumanizing.
Over 20k followers and not followed by a single person I know. Thatβs a red flag.
I so appreciate this because "AI" enthusiast coders have a profound misunderstanding of what it means to be part of a community of practice. I think that's a really helpful starting point when I decide whether to engage, resist, or dunk (all of which can be appropriate depending on the situation)
Or maybe itβs just that so many bad things are happening at the same time that itβs exhausting and overwhelming. I feel it too. But collapsing everything into a single core issue is not the solution.
I guess itβs the final form of the attention economy boss battle, where itβs assumed no one is able to focus on more than one thing at a time, but no one can agree on what the one thing is we should all be paying attention to.
I really think we need to remove the word βdistractionβ from political discourse.
Why is anybody still paying attention to this old man who has lost touch with reality? Time to retire, grandpa.
But then you would just be a movie podcast and who needs another one of those?
Hmmm. I always thought this movie was a lot smarter than people gave it credit for at the time, but I also havenβt rewatched it since. Canβt wait to find out what you all thought of it.
I might have to check it out. My problem with OpenOffice was that it tried too hard to keep up with all the features of MS Office. I feel like these open source projects would do better to just keep it simple. But it's been probably a decade since I messed around with it.
If anyone suggests GIMP in my replies, it's an automatic block.
It kind of baffles me that there aren't more basic apps available for simple things like word processing and image editing. By which I mean non-subscription-based and non-cloud-based apps. Like for people who don't need advanced features and don't want to give money to Microsoft or Adobe.
One of my favourite sides of politics/media.
Itβs not an excuse. Iβm Canadian also
Jesus Christ. What the fuck. Really kill your idols kind of moment.
The guy had a nazi tattoo. Who gives a shit if heβs a βgood political communicatorβ?
*sigh*
I guess every single person I respect is gonna disappoint me sooner or later. Didnβt see this one coming.
A young American friend of mine who had PTSD from serving in Afghanistan voted for Trump because he said he was a single issue voter and his issue was βno war.β The arguments we had over it then ended our friendship. I wonder how he feels about his choice today.
I feel attacked
A cartoon drawing of 2 Pomeranian dogs carrying a banner that says "No War"
The strikes on Iran by two colonial entities means we're going to enmeshed in yet another awful period of death.
A reminder that you also don't have defend the Iranian regime to be anti-war.
I am already seeing "it's a distraction!" takes and please fucking kill me
Bernie Sanders is completely useless.
Holy shit. This is crazy
Whoa. I am enticed!!
75% my Instagram ads are about high-tech underwear for men with innovative features like pouches in which to park your balls. I am not the target demographic. That is some straight guy nonsense.
