Nobody is buying this. Spiralling into irrelevance.
Costs soar for large infrastructure projects. Smaller deliverables that are done one home at a time see economies of scale, bulk buying gear, more workers training so better capacity, and as those thousands of jobs expand, money circulates through the economy meaning it’s not really been spent.
Yeah that’s the worst! Sometimes the landowner might be lazy, sometimes they’re just busy, but often they’ve got a lot older since the original planting and literally can’t do it. If you can get a landowner with guard litter talking and figure out which, we can try to lend them a hand.

I’ve got countless ticks crawling around with huge teams of volunteers removing guards from woodlands and hedgerows we didn’t even plant.

Thankfully I don’t get paid for my time or that alone would’ve denting the bank.
We work on projects that have absolutely no funding. Would not exist without volunteering.

A scared Robin being checked out by one of our volunteers who knew what they were doing.
In an unexpected turn of events, a robin managed to get into my van after I left the window open a crack.
Took a while and it was good at hiding down the back of my seats, but we checked it over, and it flew off.
It left behind a truly impressive amount of bird shit all over the interior.
A muddy berm being planted with a new hedge to hold it all together.
An old gappy hedgerow with large old hazel and lots of new saplings planted and guarded.
Despite 20+ people not bothering to show up or even cancel, we got a lot hedging planted today. One of them was a kid, who smashed it. A family of three rocked up at 3pm to pitch in after seeing our cries for help on local Facebook groups. 1,000 more to plant another time, now off to the next job.

Your trees are all up in here. Or at least the willows are, and the alders are in the back of my van and heading there for planting asap.

Whether it was ideological at the time or they had a crystal ball and could see how badly this would be delivered, it turns out they were right.
£45bn down on Hinkley Point C and we still won’t have any electricity out of it until 2030 (presuming the deadline doesn’t change again).
