Quite a chase, followed one supercell the entire time and watched it produce 3 tornadoes. One captured below in Pontiac, another brief spin up near Herscher, and the back edge of the monster east of Aroma Park.

It is always concerning to have a tornado threat after sundown. Studies have shown nocturnal tornadoes are ~2x deadlier than daytime.
FYI: Also a large hail risk in TX, IL, IN, MO.

Much of Oklahoma is in a 15–29% risk area for severe hail, with a corridor of higher risk extending from the western Oklahoma Panhandle through Woodward and Elk City toward Oklahoma City and Tulsa. A smaller hatched area across southwest and south-central Oklahoma near Altus and Lawton indicates the potential for significant hail, including stones up to baseball size. Text highlights increased risk of golf-ball-size hail across parts of northern and central Oklahoma.

while waiting for severe storms to pop in Kansas, there's a tornado on the ground attm in south-central lower Michigan due south of Kalamazoo. this is gonna be an interesting evening.

Mixed feelings. While NCEP/NCAR Reanalysis 1 was ancient and I would never use it in research, the "Daily Mean Composites" (psl.noaa.gov/data/composi...) was useful tool for climate monitoring.
Maybe @copernicusecmwf.bsky.social could develop a similar tool for ERA5?
