For the record: it took a couple of weeks to reach the first 1,000 accounts. The 2,000 mark was reached 72 hours later, the 3,000 mark 31 hours later, and the 4,000 mark 37 hours later.

It's still early days, some key features are missing, and there are some rough edges, but you can publish tiles to AT and play with the idea!

Here’s a quick recap of yesterday’s Summit. The @greens-efa.eu & @alexandrageese.bsky.social had invited myself and several other technologists, including @robin.berjon.com, to speak in the EU parliament as part of the „EU Tech Stars Summit“ www.greens-efa.eu/en/article/event/eu-tech-stars-summit.
“Authoritarian infrastructure leads to an authoritarian society” @robin.berjon.com said, in reference to our current tech stack.
And he also brought up the infamous Technate, a “deeply rooted ideology that keeps reappearing”.

It's early days and it will take many people and orgs together but we'll get there. My personal target: 50% of European social media users on open platforms by 2030.
In parallel, we've also been working on all the non-tech side of things. Having an institutional home @modalfoundation.bsky.social, compliance, fundraising.. We're setting up for the long term. After the PDS, it will be appview components and apps.
Folks who get the invitations early should expect a service that works but where things can go wrong. Early adopters and all that 🙂🙏
We also want to make the user experience for migrating accounts as easy as possible. There are good tools that do this today but it's a bit of an involved process and many people may find it a bit complicated. We're working on a more streamlined tool but it will take a few weeks because of capacity.
There are thousands of folks registered already and we haven't really been promoting this beyond a couple of posts on Bluesky. We want to make sure you get a reliable service. Something always go wrong in any product and we want to minimize any future service disruption.

However, W have their own funding, and are not at present working with us.
Yes at the moment @modalfoundation.bsky.social is mostly funded by the Free Our Feeds campaign, as well as by a lot of volunteer and in-kind work. We have huge appreciation for everyone who gave, and the majority of our funds have come from individual donations - more than 2200.
