I recognize this is an exceedingly difficult time and for many of you this is a crisis on several levels. I respect those challenges and I don't consider press rights superior to the rights of others. However, all other rights depend on press rights. We cannot allow them to be chilled. This was explained by civil rights icon and longtime congressmember John Lewis: "If it hadn't been for the media, for brave, courageous journalists, the civil rights movement would have been like a bird without wings." Democracy cannot function without an informed public. The public cannot be informed without a free press. It is your shared responsibility to ensure press are able to do their job. Several of you have been supportive over the years and I thank you for that. But your support is now needed more than ever. Please ensure your teams are aware of these egregious violations and ensure you take all possible steps to protect the press, and thereby the public and our country itself. Sincerely, Adam Rose Press Rights Chair Los Angeles Press Club
Dozens of journalists were assaulted by law enforcement in Los Angeles this weekend.
The press were just doing their job -- a sacred one explicitly protected by law.
Press rights orgs will follow up collectively tomorrow.
Tonight, I emailed evidence to local/state/federal officials. My sign off:
I would pay good money to watch an F1 race featuring parents dropping their children off at school.

Really proud of my journalism colleague and fellow union rabblerouser for receiving this well-deserved recognition for his heartfelt and meticulously researched take on the homelessness crisis. @pacificmediaguild.bsky.social @newsguild.org
Getting a plug in The New Yorker is a real honor and a well-deserved one at that. Congratulations!
Finally, corporate interests will be heard.
Journalist union rep here. I would start by asking your local reporter this question. They know best what they need and what you can do to help. I would def steer clear of submitting content for free w/out clear assurances that doing so does not undermine paid staff.

Seriously. We did it before in 2012. I was younger then.
Any civic minded orgs interested in preserving one of the nation's best (and last remaining) local media companies? Includes the two-time Pulitzer-winning Press Democrat and a kick ass staff. @pacificmediaguild.bsky.social @newsguild.org
The updated forecast for the Napa River calls for major flooding later tonight, just shy of the all-time record for the city of Napa. If this holds the river would exceed the 97' flood that basically cut off transpo in Napa Valley, prior to current flood control measures. #cawx
No surprise given the pelting of rain overnight, the Napa River is expected to reach monitor stage across #napavalley by midnight Tuesday PST.
Congrats!

Weβll all read this headline and want to feel smug, but the real loser here is not AI β itβs the people in communities where local journalism is so hobbled the newsroom owners and managers take up absurd approaches that end up doing further harm to the community
