Case for Environmental Harm as a 12th Crime Against Humanity
Addressing the global environmental crisis requires urgent action. This treaty offers an opportunity to confront it directly and decisively.
From Saddam Husseinβs draining of southern Iraqβs marshes to Russiaβs attacks on a Ukrainian dam and nuclear power plant, calls are increasing to recognize mass environmental harms as international crimes.
@leilasadat1.bsky.social outlines a role for the proposed #CrimesAgainstHumanity treaty:

Landmark Ruling Gives Paris Climate Agreement Teeth
A rare unanimous ruling from the International Court of Justice creates a pathway to hold all governments, even the climate-denying ones, legally liable for climate risk.
The ruling from the International Court of Justice last week is genuinely a big fucking deal. It makes it a legal obligation for countries to address climate change. Yes, even the ones not signed on to Paris. Yes, even the U.S. More from me & @rishpardikar.bsky.social drilled.media/news/ijc-1

Itβs way too late, but the truth has a way of coming out. Forget the airdrops and scrap GHF β let the UN organizations resume their humanitarian delivery operations NOW to stop the ongoing starvation:

This woman does the best she can and I'm glad she stepped up and got in officers faces.
A few quick notes about "warrants" and due process when law enforcement arrest people, and how this squares with the current TRO that ostensibly blocks profiling by race, language, occupation, and location

know we're not supposed to share things like this on Linkedn, but I'm going to share it anyway because it was horrifying and it's happening everywhere and it needs to be shared.
This morning when I was driving home after dropping my son off at summer camp, I saw a swarm of ICE agents as I drove past our local Home Depot. It looked like they were tying up some workers, and my first reaction was to pull into the parking lot.
I couldn't think. I couldn't process. I couldn't reason. I just jumped out of my car and started filming.
I then watched as these two people were disappeared into unmarked vehicles, with one of the ICE vehicles trying to back into me when I wasn't looking.
Another woman tried to help. An ICE agent tried to slap her phone down when she tried to get a phone number to call this man's family. They wouldn't let her. Instead, they whisked him away and accused her of obstructing justice.
I'm currently lying awake in bed at 11pm thinking about how these men won't return home to their families tonight, and their families will probably never know what happened to them.
I've been through some traumatic events in my life, but I've never witnessed anything like this.
This was down the street from my son's elementary school in our little peaceful coastal town.
You may not see it on the news, but you'll hear it from me because it needs to be shared.
From the LinkedIn of the womanβa white lawyer from Carlsbad, CAβwho filmed this encounter and shared the video:

Deploying the National Guardβover the objections of state leaders and local law enforcementβis a dangerous escalation.
This isnβt about enforcing law and order, itβs about seizing power and control. Americans wonβt tolerate this slide into authoritarianism.

There is no climate justice without justice for oppressed people.
I wish the climate scientists vocal on climate mitigation all had the level of moral clarity that Greta Thunberg has.

There's no way you can look at Ukraine hitting a lawful military target, used for bombing Ukrainian cities, and think that justifies retribution against those same cities, without believing almost wholly in the Russian framing of the war.
