I’m glad I no longer work in social-media rapid response. My thoughts are with everyone who’s forced to spend their evening waiting for the right moment to post someone else’s tepid takes.
Today on Volts: meat! Bruce Friedrich argues that a) the dire environmental & social impacts of meat cultivation are rising, but b) so is meat consumption, so the only solution is c) plant-based or cultivated meat. We talk about the state of the market, the tech, & the future possibilities.
Writing is thinking.
It's not some marginal boring task you can skip. It's the heart of it.
It’s easy to think writing is mainly the transcription of ideas you already have—that is, until you try to write something worthwhile, and you find what you thought were saying transform into something far more interesting in the process. This skips that last step, and that is *not* an improvement.
The National Labs are part of the foundation of U.S. science and innovation. They should be strengthened, not gutted.
love all my fellow nerds but I'm using IRA here is a generic stand-in for a big policy swing, not a specific future approach necessarily focused on revenue and credits because of reconciliation. It was great btw, the next five will be much better.
Bad Bunny is telling the world that the people in Puerto Rico are American citizens and deserve reliable and resilient electricity and infrastructure investment from the U.S. government.
Just a few weeks ago, the administration cancelled all remaining department of energy grid resilience projects in Puerto Rico. All of them. www.latitudemedia.com/news/the-end...
Bezos fucked the paper and instead of fixing it he’s destroying it despite the fact that he could spend the money to make things right without even noticing its absence.

So much of what I read these days is slop devoid of soul. This @michael-thomas.bsky.social piece is a crisp, refreshing reprieve. Thanks @volts.wtf for amplifying it. I’m glad it hit my feed.

I’m so glad nothing happened in the Yankees-Red Sox game until after Yom Kippur ended. It was relieving to just turn on my phone and tune into 0-0.

But OBBBA also creates new opportunities. There are many (many) angles to this story—and this story is still unfolding. Please give our piece a read!

New @rockymtninst.bsky.social article with my colleagues Ellie Garland and Meredith Cowart: What's next for advanced energy manufacturing in the United States in the wake of the One Big Beautiful Bill Act (OBBBA)?
It's undeniable that the law creates new challenges for many manufacturers.
One thought on this entire year: It's sad if not totally shocking to see that for many folks in public life, their principles are—at best—merely preferences.
@volts.wtf you were way ahead of the curve here
