Love this factoid: Near Millennium Bridge is the street Broken Wharf. The watergate it describes may've been broken since 1209; def from 1590s. There's no record of it ever being fixed. That we're still commemorating a disfunctional quayside seems unreasonable, ludicrous, but somehow wonderful too.

I haven't kept any of my reporter's notebooks from my early career in newspaper journalism, but the evolution of my personal note-taking can be traced from newsroom stationery cupboard shorthand notebooks to Moleskines.

Thanks for sharing that further info/context, Emma. What I have been able to do (perhaps not perfect, but hopefully a suitable compromise) is change the question parameter to allow people to choose up to two options for their answer.

My target respondents are those who actively research and produce historical outputs, rather than those who mostly consume history. Hope that helps.

I appreciate this is a complex topic and that I am not an expert. For that reason, I included an 'other' free text option on this question so those who didn't see an answer that matched their identity could add their own.
