My heart goes out to Roblox SREs!

If you are a connoisseur of services under strain, I can highly recommend attempting to log into Roblox right now

In all seriousness: the last 2 weeks of TikTok posturing and Zuck grovelling, combined with the X insanity of the last year, should show you that an app with a feed that you don’t control serves *other people’s interests* - not yours.

Perhaps his vision was the future of meat and hunting. The “vison”, or “vegan bison” as it used to be known

What about his spelling too?

NUCS is a Numba-powered constraint solver: github.com/yangeorget/n...

It's an area I don't know much about, but Optimal Golomb Ruler stuff sounds cool!

(A long time ago I think I participated in the distributed.net search for OGRs)

That turned out not to be a hugely successful effort as there were a lot of areas of Numba involved that I know very little about! 🙂

The VOD should be available for a few days. Might edit it to shorten out bits where I'm just slow / confused prior to uploading to Youtube.

Issues · numba/numba NumPy aware dynamic Python compiler using LLVM. Contribute to numba/numba development by creating an account on GitHub.

Planning to stream debugging of a Numba segfault shortly:
"Segmentation fault when using recursive generator with Numba JIT (NUMBA_OPT=0)"

Not that I know of. She used Mastodon for a bit but the server she signed up on shut down, and I don't think she migrated or signed up to another after that.

A common proposed solution to certain categories of IFNDR: Getting the linker to verify identical functions - The Old New Thing You could do it, but it could cramp your style.

Trying to verify that all versions of an inline function are identical seems like a "fun" problem (from Raymod Chen's blog): devblogs.microsoft.com/oldnewthing/...

GitHub - gmarkall/aoc-2024: Advent of Code 2024 - basic attempts, Python and NumPy Advent of Code 2024 - basic attempts, Python and NumPy - gmarkall/aoc-2024

Been working through Advent of Code in github.com/gmarkall/aoc... - keeping it simple so that when it gets tricky I'm less likely to be derailed.

Taking a look at day 4 later today, as I have some commitments this morning.

I wonder - had it not been merged, would there have been a risk to Intel that mmp/ispc would have become the canonical place for ispc development, and/or it eventually leading to a community-maintained fork?

To-do list for this week:

- Call an old friend
- Pin down the track on my son's N gauge trainset (it's a work in progress!)
- Make mince pies (I get into a Christmas mood through food, and I'm about ready for it already this year)

The iMac appeals to me as a fantasy of a simple life - where I don't need to use a computer outside the house, and computing sessions are simple and non-technical, for tasks not really related to computers. Having all my computing needs met by just an iMac at home feels like a retirement dream.
