βElon Musk is firing military veteran firefighters for no reasonβ is the biggest slam dunk in political messaging history, Dems should be shouting it into the worldβs biggest bullhorn from the top of the Washington Monument.
The entire archive of CDC datasets can be found here.
HUGE shoutout to data archivists- this work is important πππ»

The Internet Archive has to date downloaded 500 terabytes of US government websites, which it crawls at the end of every presidential term. The whole archive is fully searchable. This effort's housed by a donation-funded nonprofit, not a branch of the US government. blog.archive.org/2024/05/08/e...
Also seeing a few "average home knitter's" results vs what's portrayed on the beautifully shot, twiggy model on the pattern... Priceless
I can't live without it. Does get complicated... But I can figure out something will probably look terrible BEFORE I spend dozens of hours creating it
But but but... You can probably find those patterns on ravelry, and from there see pictures ppl have posted of their own results with that pattern! What does it look like in xyz color combos, & different sizes? What does that yarn you're tempted to buy look like once knitted in xyz way? It's amazing
But I might actually be able to filter for that in my next pattern search? Ravelry is what the internet should have become, in a better world where it didn't get ruined by social media, SEO and AI
I just spent hours finding a pattern for the type of sweater I feel like making, in a yarn weight & colors that I already own sufficient yardage of. I was ready to go. Aaaaand I don't have the right size needles in my SIZABLE collection of DPNs, circulars & straights. Siiiiighhhh
Knitting is truly for masochists. Can anyone point me to another hobby that's supported by a tool as broadly & intricately indexed & cross-referenced as ravelry??
This one's VERY nice but I don't make it often due to the multiple components/garnishes
Potato leek that is JUST leeks (with the green part) & potatoes, simmered in broth with thyme. Puree & serve with cheddar toast

Fuuuuuck, is it? I'd managed to dial down yesterday's urgent sense of trepidation, but now I feel like I shouldn't have
38's a hell of a lot better than 28! I mean, other than the state of the world in general...
Nononono, the upgrade we want is for appliances that cost thousands of dollars to last more than 3 to 5 years before shitting the bed.
Yes. And you truly realize that loss is & will continue to be a part of life, and you learn how to reckon with that... Or develop crippling anxiety & unhealthy coping mechanisms
Yep. General cardiovascular havoc that might fly under the radar till suddenly it doesn't. One of the greatest failures of the COVID response was letting acute respiratory symptoms overshadow the long-term endothelial ones in the public imagination
Thanks you.
Yuuuup it's truly mind boggling how easily people lose empathy or don't realize they're looking at their own future
We didn't get an autopsy, he had chest pains while lifting weights & then collapsed & was dead by the time EMTs arrived. My best guess heart attack or PE, both of which have elevated risk after COVID just like stroke. It's a disease that attacks the lining of blood vessels. He was a very active 70yo
Thank you. It is tough, I hope you're doing ok.

I'm sorry for yours. I'd rather they'd proven us wrong.
And some people think the official death count was inflated. BITCH ooohhhh
And I'm not saying it was certainly that, but I have my strong suspicions & I'm pretty fucking salty that I'm not allowed to talk about it & that there's no effective effort to track THOSE deaths
(And of course since it was later nobody is attributing it to COVID sequelae)
