Highly recommend checking out government surplus auctions. They tend to have functional furniture that’s old enough to be pre-particle board, and they’re usually inexpensive. My living room is lined with 7’ bookcases that I bought off the state.

The moon should get to dress up more.

I mean, I’m not going to tell anyone that they have to like what I like. If someone doesn’t like speculative fiction, that’s fine! But to discount a wide swath of genre as lesser and without literary merit is silly. Every genre has a bell curve of quality.

So infuriating. Not liking things are fine—there are plenty of books I don’t enjoy—but to write off entire genres that you never read because you assume they have no literary merit is such a close-minded take.

It was a good book! It was well-written, and I really enjoyed it. But to pretend that it is some spectacular outlier in the genre does a disservice to horror readers and writers.

Yesterday’s book was lit horror, and someone actually said, “For people who read horror, this is probably the best book they have ever read.”

Reader, I nearly started a riot.

One of my book clubs reads lit fic. It’s great, I like the people, but some members have opinions about “icky genre fiction” that will one day drive me to insanity.

Clinique seems to have discontinued step three of its three-step routine, which is both baffling me and making my skin miserable.

I Now Pronounce You by Caroline Earleywine is excellent! Also Ways We Vanish by Todd Dillard and anything by Maggie Smith.

The saltiness is warranted. It really does feel as though people are intentionally tossing away any semblance of intellect, and that is the demographic that is pandered to as the lowest common denominator.

It’s the “I want it to be as dumbed down as possible” that gets me.
