And some reports are coming in. Up to about golfball-sized hail with that supercell. Wow. #ONstorm

Almost 76 dBZ radar returns with this elevated supercell at Hopeville, ON heading NE. Almost certainly producing large hail with returns that high. Only about 2C at the surface so not going to be much melting of any hailstones as they fall. Any reports from that area? #ONstorm

This Mount Forest, ON elevated supercell has increasing mid-level rotation and copious amounts of lightning. Again, not much of a wind risk but appears to be increasing chance of large hail with this storm. #ONstorm

Elevated supercell now affecting Mount Forest. Likely some hail, possibly severe, falling there. Not much of a chance for any wind. #ONstorm

Rapidly strengthening storms now entering southern Ontario. The storms are ‘elevated’, so mainly a flash flooding threat though some hail is also possible. But much less of a wind/tornado threat. #Windsor area should be on alert however - stronger storms possible there later tonight. #ONstorm

Excellent analysis, Alan, and I agree with your recommendations. I wonder if the occurrence of this event so early in the year for MI had an impact i.e. were forecasters in a summer storms mindset? Also, what were radar-based diagnostic and nowcasting tools telling forecasters about that storm?

At least one damaging tornado in SW Michigan a bit earlier this afternoon. Cold Lake Erie should provide southern Ontario with protection against the tornado threat tomorrow, though Ohio looks to be in the bullseye. Could still see thunderstorms overnight and tomorrow in southern Ontario! #ONstorm

Possible supercell, likely elevated, over western Lake Erie near 4 pm. Azimuthal shear has decreased in the last 20 minutes at the storm moves toward Point Pelee National Park. #ONstorm

I think people miss that the orange menace is using Canadians' love of hockey to poke us in the eye and get us riled up. Think of his recent messaging and actions - glorifying US wins over Canada, claiming that China will take away our hockey, etc. He doesn't care about hockey, only hurting Canada.

Shame Canada couldn't win gold at hockey, but on the bright side, they've probably saved their nation from the imposition of 1000% punative tariffs on goods into the USA
