The action was coordinated to disrupt Starbucksβ βred cupβ holiday winter seasonal promotion, which is typically the most profitable time for the company.
It also attracted notable supporters like Seattle mayor-elect Katie Wilson, who joined hundreds outside the shuttered Seattle Reserve Roastery.
As a result, workers have decided to play one final card: A national, open-ended strike. Starting on Nov. 13, baristas in more than 40 cities went on strike, picketing outside their stores and shutting them down.
Now workers are on the verge of a big breakthrough β negotiating their first national labor contract.
But since the unionβs member-led bargaining team rejected an offer back in April, the process has stalled. The key sticking points remain compensation and health benefits.
Itβs been four years since the
NLRB certified the petition by Starbucks baristas in Buffalo, NY to unionize the first store in the country.
Since then, more than 550 stores and 11,000 workers have joined the union @sbworkersunited.org including dozens of locations in the Seattle area.
Seattle Starbucks workers are once again on the picket line. This time theyβre digging in for the long-term, nationwide strike.
@guyoron.net reports.
Iβm proud to join my colleagues @realchangenews.org in taking a stand on AI, making it clear that we do not and will not use any generative AI software in our journalism. www.realchangenews.org/news/2025/12...

On Nov. 8, dozens gathered on the small lawn of Urban Triangle Park to call attention to an issue seldom-discussed in Seattle: the ongoing civil war in Sudan.
Protesters condemned how the United Arab Emirates has backed the Rapid Support Forces, which has been accused of war crimes.
"Government-owned public housing has been one of the most significant lifelines of deep affordability for the lowest-income families. But due to decades of defunding and neglect, public housing has gone into disrepair and tenants are left to live with mold, leaks, broken appliances and more."
#GivingTuesday is coming up on Dec. 2, and we're choosing to kick things off early!
Last #GivingTuesday, our community raised over $70K. β¨ This year, we hope to raise $50K by Dec. 2 to fund our programs and bring us closer to our major Winter Fund Drive goal.
