Hi. If you learn well in a traditional educational environment and want a course about making dungeons that is $0 instead of, uh, $800, may I offer you the Designing Dungeons Course, or How to Kill a Party in 30 Rooms or Less:

Mastodon is the best pure social media site. Truefact. But in the same spirit, it's easier to stuff a kiwi up your nose than a pineapple. Fact.

Gonna stop blogging about blogging now. Blogs about blogging are popular among bloggers, who read blogs. Blogs about play are not popular with players because they are not bloggers, usually. But players will play and bloggers will blog and SOMEONE has to tear the bandage off this human centipede!

Also, I've only learned about them in the last week, and for such a weird old thing there is a SUSPICIOUS amount of hosts a providers that specialise in it, all using vaguely sinister "meet like minded enthusiasts" wording to sell it. It's all cannibals, right?

I stuck my head in the other day. They're still there, some are even still active. And you can access them natively on Thunderbird, which is pretty ubiquitous. All it'd take is, like, 20 people to use a channel and BAM it's alive again like nothing happened

As the post is branching out wider and wider, it's kinda losing its context as well. This is about creators and very interested laypeople in specialist communities maintaining group knowledge and contacts. Doesn't matter so much if Aunt Ethel or my 14 year old cousin can't hack it

Not everyone needs to be everywhere. G+ proved that, if anything, it's better for a fruitful community if there's some kind of (very, very soft) barrier to entry

My site is hosted on nixihost for $6/mo (I use wordpress, but there are literally dozens of blog & site builders you can use there) and my domain is ~$12/yr through porkbun. You can even host multiple services, like a website plus a forum
If I sell 2-3 pdfs from it a month, it pays for itself

I been said that you can just make a website literally whenever, RSS still exists, forums still exist. There's a fully functional clone of 2007 era Myspace

I think the lack of storygames blogs is down to The Forge. It absorbed all the energy that might otherwise have been spent on blogging. See? Forums ARE evil!

I think a resurgence of rss is crucial to this as well
You can "follow" people's updates, without ever being on the same social media site, it's universal. Just add their RSS to a reader.
Big social media sites like twitter etc removed rss to keep you on their site. We have to bring that back

This is a little appendix for the incoming blog renaissance: Please please PLEASE do not go and elect yourselves a King or Queen of the blogosphere this time around. It never ends well, ever. Be ungovernable! And not lame!

There is a gradient of blogs. Starting from the outside, inspirational, motivational, theory things, all the way to "an ontology of dungeon doors", where the REAL meat is

Currently I'm running it a couple of times a week at an open table at Iglootree in south London, and I'm gonna be running it online for as many Friends of Melsonia as I can manage. GMing it is shockingly moreish
