Thanks to the librarian who recommended THE OTHERWHERE POST (by Emily J. Taylor) to me. Magical YA. Librarians know their books.

Saw a little girl, backpack slung over one shoulder, walking home from school, reading a book. β€οΈ
I love this so much.
Iβm enjoying hearing your news!

Love this amazing book!
Treadle loom with my very beginner weaving on it.
I got an old treadle loom and every week an 81-year-old woman comes over to teach me how to use it and it's the most fun part of the week
"The mowing machineβs whirring sounded cheerfully from the old buffalo wallow south of the claim shanty, where bluestem grass stood thick and tall and Pa was cutting it for hay." -- THE LONG WINTER, Laura Ingalls Wilder
This one is for NOLA folks.
What is the best place to order a king cake that can be shipped? In other words, the best king cake in the city that we can enjoy several states away?
I'll spare you the absolute embarrassment of what a local-to-me shop tried to pass off as King Cake to us last year.
Heartbreaking
"During the Great Depression, times were tough." -- HARD WORK, BUT IT'S WORTH IT: THE LIFE OF JIMMY CARTER, Bethany Hegedus
@penguinteen.bsky.social Hi, friends! I'm working on a "Best of 2024" YA cover post for tomorrow and I can't seem to find any credit for the designer and artist of Adventures of Mary Jane by Hope Jahren! Any idea who created it so I can include their names in the post?

US and UK friends, I'm curious: What books were part of your required reading for highschool literature class? Which of them do you remember loving, and which did you loathe?
What a beautiful photo and how many things it says!

"Sanjay and I sit on the top of the hill and stare out at the huge, never-ending Arabian Sea." -- THIRST, Varsha Bajaj
I asked a child what their fave book from last year was and their answer was a series that was published about a decade ago. A good reminder that a book is always new to a child who hasn't read it. The constant publishing hustle for novelty has nothing to do with what children want. #KidLitUK
Each year I track the children's book creators we lost during the year. In 2024 we saw some truly great friends go away. Here's my list. Even if you didn't know the people, you knew these books: #kidlit afuse8production.slj.com/2025/01/03/i...

"I am a frozen statue of a girl in the woods." -- FIREKEEPER'S DAUGHTER, Angeline Boulley
Iβve seen it several times!
This 14th Century door at Exeter Cathedral is thought to have the oldest existing cat flap.
"But, you may say, we asked you to speak about women and fiction β what has that got to do with a room of oneβs own?" -- A ROOM OF ONE'S OWN, Virginia Woolf
A reminder to anyone trapped in an airport due to weather conditions right now:
You have a right to stay in a nearby picturesque village while the airline sorts out a rebooked flight for the 27th. They also have to provide a widowed lumberjack for you to fall in love with.
Know your rights.
So happy for you! Congratulations to you both! <3
