in a near-future reality, I guess my dream would be some kind of useful trade language that's simple, easy to learn and pronounce, and accessible worldwide—not exactly an end point, but a first step in communicating that everyone has the option to learn

but this is just a nice thought, no substance

it's tricky isn't it!

most of the common/wide-reaching languages we have now seem to be the direct result of empires expanding and forcing their influence on new populations—so in that sense, gosh I hope not!

but, I've always enjoyed sci-fi where humans and aliens communicate via a shared tongue

this has me thinking about constructed/international bridge languages, I haven't really gone looking since learning enough about esperanto to understand its crucial flaws

wonder what else is out there these days!

btw if you already speak english, it only takes like 10 minutes to learn how words are pronounced in a bunch of other languages (at least approximately)

for example, spanish, polish, te reo māori, japanese (with romaji), these are all really easy with tons of free guides online

today in overwatch.exe (I am gold 5) I got accused of smurfing for the first time (I am gold 5) on a character I don't play (gold 5)

since I was a kid actually! kickstarted my appreciation for aotearoa/nz and led me to a bunch of the comedians I got into, wwdits (movie), and a bunch of other stuff

a really big influence on my early music too! in college I had a band with my best friend largely inspired by fotc :)
