in Toronto they tore this up near me in November - left it like the second pic for a week or so, came back and β€œfixed” it but had broken a bunch of the bricks/ - also maybe / lost guess they couldn’t figure out how to put it back - this is the state still as of this last week ! Was undamaged before

New video footage shows a US Tomahawk missile hitting an IRGC facility in Minab, Iran, on Feb 28, showing for the first time that the US struck the area. The footage also shows smoke already rising from the vicinity of the girls’ school, where 175 people were reportedly killed, including children.

being around fast-moving traffic is generally not a great experience for people not in cars, regardless of separation - so a better question might be why should vehicles be going 40km/h+ (most go 50-60 down here tbh) next to a destination park, housing and a new neighbourhood

to start: the pedestrian and cycling infrastructure isn't intuitive down there - many places already that pedestrians are crossing that aren't the designated crossings because they weren't designed around walkability - but overall still has a wide variety of conflict zones, is meant to be a "place"

spend a lot of time down there - nobody would follow rules if it was 30km/h unless it underwent a fairly significant design language change (continuous pedestrian crossings, permeable / textured road materials, narrower overall ROW - adaptive signalling etc) - hasn't been forward thinking from day 1

agree and my guess would be the other furniture (namely bus shelters) have been cash positive, and unless the city is about to get into the advertising business might be hard to coordinate

Toronto’s mayor wants to finally fix this foul-smelling city eyesore. It’s unclear how much it will cost Mayor Olivia Chow is proposing the city take back control of its sidewalk trash receptacles after two decades of privatization.

This is good news - @spacing.bsky.social has long advocated that the City should have direct control over street furniture. It's not clear why the City would only take over garbage bins and not other street furniture too, however. www.thestar.com/news/gta/tor...

Mercer Union in 2022 - I saw this beautiful, haunting short film by Lawrence Abu Hamdan. It utilizes a unique Canadian-American border loophole - Haskell Free Library and Opera House - to tell a story about violence crossing borders without responsibility - often think of it youtu.be/qipvYWo5B5g?...

they literally went nuts and bought twitter when they ~thought it was yielding to government demands that they imagined in their head (suppressing right-wing beliefs and opinions) now they do it outright and the same people will clap like seals

bridge in the port lands has some fairly serious damage to its draining infrastructure and also to the benches that were installed on it, I’m guessing from snow removal equipment…

Ford government unveils renders that won’t happen (volume 1) - in a further attempt to justify the closure of the Ontario Science Centre building that’s perfectly fine and operational - built and designed for the purpose - closed due to politics

Premier Ford holds a press conference | February 26 YouTube video by Premier of Ontario

minister Stan Cho actually said at the press conference that the "facility itself" is only 220,000sf despite still claiming the 400,000sf number (guessing the grounds). Question and answer starts @ 39:24 www.youtube.com/live/VClzz3d...

Did you know that the City is conducting a survey about the future of street furniture in Toronto? The current contract expires in the summer of 2027 and a new vendor & furniture will be picked. Take the survey to have your voice heard. #TOpoli

Big day tomorrow. MPs will be discussing (behind closed doors) a draft report on how to best change election rules to throttle a group that points out MPs shouldn't be in charge of their own election rulesπŸ€”

how can it be that we have no tools of accountability with public dollars spent at a public agency - $97,000,000 gets withered away to the ether and no one can say why - this is criminal

I actually meant the other way in which parents would purchase houses on behalf of their children to defer the tax, but I understand now there was also a principal resident clause, etc. it was just the first I’ve ever heard of this so I was like shocked

half a decade since the Doug Ford government put up these β€œaffordable housing” signs in early 2021 at the former dominion foundry to justify their hurried demolition of the site - despite a full rezoning in the form of MZO in fall 2020 the demo’d parts have been a parking lot for years, no housing
