So far this year, more than 5.1 million COVID cases have been reported in the U.S., causing 360,140 hospitalizations and 22,398 deaths.

Deaths have been updated for the first time since the government shutdown, showing 3,245 new deaths since our update on September 28.

COVID cases remain at relatively low levels but are rising across most of the U.S., with only few exceptions. Seasonal flu and RSV are also rising.

- In hospital: 3,302 (+11%)
- In ICU: 488 (+14%)
- New deaths: 3,245 (backlog)

So far this year, nearly 5.1 million COVID cases have been reported in the U.S., causing 355,476 hospitalizations and 19,153 deaths.

Deaths have not been updated since the government shutdown on October 1. A CDC spokesperson told us: "When the government reopened, the formidable backlog began to be processed. Provisional death data will be published soon."

COVID cases remain relatively low but are rising in the Midwest, the Northeast and parts of the South. Cases are still declining in the West, with the exception of Alaska.
