Putting terms online for people to read is a great start. We need people outside of game dev to talk about doing it too.
Devs shouldn't have to go to Kickstarter to get funding from angels, and the community is good for indie mental health.

I skipped GDC this year. Most of the people I know writing checks are also skipping because their inboxes are already full.
It's a buyer's market, and the only thing people are interested in buying is a complete game. Tons of those around, many unreleased too.

I've been watching my wife replay Majora's Mask. It's remarkable how many activities they managed to cram into the world. And it still feels designed and cohesive.
Plus, the whole thing was made in just a year from mostly existing assets.
After discussions about poor behavior by DICE attendees last month, I thought I'd bring these out again at GDC dawns.

My team at work came up with like a millennia of lore and backstory to drive the art in-game today, it's so freaking cool to see it brought to life in a comic.
Also I think the idea of using the comic to drive growth of the community Discord is pretty cool. My friend Jen thought of that!

I'm reviewing my list of "in progress" gamedev projects right now. It's basically 20 subfolders, each earmarked for a project. 10 of these folders are empty or contain a single document with less than a paragraph of text. 7 have partially-written rules but are unplayable. 3 are fully playtestable.

I've been running gdcparties.com for a few years now. Some shitty company BlueberryAI decided they'd just take all the source code for the work I've done and reskin it, advertising it as their own. Jokes on them...it was still linked to my events spreadsheet, and now their website looks like this 😉
Seriously. Loved the first two but got burned by Destiny 2 removing the content I was playing, while I was playing it. And not being a big fan of extraction shooters.

We invested a ton in our mission builder for exactly this reason.
You can write and ship a new mission with minimal, Age of Empires-like scripting and config, plus tagging. Minutes, not weeks. The biggest barrier now is coming up with something worth the player's time.
I feel like most devs want to be cooks, few realize they need to be chefs, and the restauranteurs are intent on only hiring bussers and only if they have to.
