A tax barrister sued me personally for Β£8m for libel after we linked him to a tax avoidance scheme.

Today the High Court struck out the claim, granted summary judgment, and ruled it was a SLAPP. The judgment is highly critical.

The security of other NATO states and European partners like Ukraine and Moldova cannot rely on continued alliance with a US whose leadership consistently put Russia first, even in relation to US interests. No amount of European diplomacy is going to change that.

There is no funnier train station sign than "Cambridge home of Anglia Ruskin University". Everytime I see it I'm impressed all over again at the level of trolling.

That was my career path, left a comprehensive school at 16 with four very ordinary O levels. Luckily found an employer who provided support for part time education which enabled me to have a successful career. Hate the system that labels kids as failures at 11.

Saw a great article on this recently breaking this fantasy down by limitations with current technology and impossibilities due to physics. But we’re told these tech bros know best!

Pretty difficult to refute a single thing in this perfect assessment of where the f**k we are, from @iandunt.bsky.social:

My son is at University at the moment without A levels. He’s autistic and couldn’t cope with the stress of these exams. He did a foundation course and he’s thriving at university with the freedom to study his own way. Not all paths follow a straight line.

Your regular reminder than a large majority of voters - and overwhelming majority of Labour voters - favour giving settled migrants access to the welfare state after five years or less. The Home Secretary is not reforming rules in line with public opinion. She is doing the opposite.

Sanchez: β€œWe are not going to be accomplices to something that is bad for the world and that is also contrary to our values and interests, simply because of the fear of reprisals from some.

We have absolute confidence in the economic, institutional and I would also say moral strength of our country

Just to make it even clearer: Ring, and all video doorbells, were always supposed to be part of a surveillance infrastructure.

Burn them all and bury the ashes in the desert.

Make it stop! I doubt the bros at Anthropic are this stupid, so the constant banging on about consciousness has to be grift of some sort. Or maybe they want to think of themselves as god-like being who’ve created new life? Because they have planet-sized egos. Either way, I wish they’d shut up.

Would be good if the Prime Minister and/or Home Secretary would for once come out and describe this as the unadulterated racism and xenophobia it so clearly is.

The utter cheek to rail against immigration and its impact on the British economy when you're a billionaire tax exile, or to lament the level of unemployment when one of the first things you did upon buying a stake in United is to make hundreds of people redundant

Manchester Utd owner is giving media interviews claiming UK "colonised" by immigrants

He thinks population rose 12 million snce 2020!

11 million people born abroad; this was 9.5 million in 2020, so that is up 1.5 million (not 12 million) but rose 7 million in 30 years from 4m before 1997

If they refuse me they'll be showing themselves to be enemies of free speech

We pride ourselves on being a democracy and yet there’s a medieval theocratic anachronism in the heart of parliament: 26 bishops with automatic seats in the House of Lords. (The only other country in the world with clerics automatically entering a government is… Iran).
