Love this game. I have the older Carthage version. Surprisingly fun at 2p.

So glad the US hockey teams got to play our Canadian friends in the medal rounds. We love our spornt neighbors.

I use a 1960s era map of the Apollo 11 moon landing in one of my classes. It’s superimposed over a baseball infield for scale, bc back then baseball was America’s Spornt.

I tend to use the phrase purely in regards to rules fluency. Like you, I think of these as two entirely separate concepts. I have plenty of games with relatively simple rules, but deep layers of strategy. I don’t really have a term for the second concept.

Congrats, this is great. The prints really capture these games, too.

Ugh, I feel for you. I had bad memory/focus problems a while back and couldn’t even set up a game from the diagram in the rule book. Terrifying, felt like a trapped animal.

Pax Pamir 2E. Amazingly complex interactions for such a simple, thematically accessible set of rules.

It’s a rational approach to the world. If you haven’t been here before, why assume you know what’s going on?
We have all dealt w the opposite, people who “got it” before we’ve finished our sentence. I do sometimes envy their easy confident simplicity.

I found In Vino Morte in a jacket pocket at a wedding. I’d put it in there at another wedding years previously. Looking for my copy of Handsome now.

This can’t be overstated. Daybreak feels amazing while having a meaningful message because it’s a uncompromisingly a satisfying game first

Votes for Women fits this category too

You can make values-forward games without being cringe. It’s incredibly hard, and the successful ones deserve HUGE props

Started off our snowed- & iced-in mini holiday wearing my antique “games captain” badge and acting as game sommelier for the neighbor friends. Soda Jerk, Ready Set Bet and the new edition of Love Letter, which was a blast at 6p. Discussed how the multiple-rounds mechanism helps mitigate randomness.
