I think thatโs the case. Iโve seen phases like โlate of this townโ & similar.

Now that #RootsTech is done, Iโm grateful for all the deep dives into applying the concepts of the GPS.
More in terms of: who is telling the story? What kind of words are they choosing? What did they include or omit? What context is given or not given? #RootsTech
#RootsTech Jen: "Absence [of information] is not emptiness." I find that this ties in with Marlee Matlin's talk about giving a voice to silenced stories.
#RootsTech Question about Historical Newspapers: how critically do we think about what we are reading about our ancestors?
#RootsTech Another organization that Diving With A Purpose is affiliated with: slavewrecksproject.org
Which just goes to show that #genealogy can be uncovered in a great variety of ways...not just visiting libraries & archives! What unique way have you uncovered something in your roots? #RootsTech
This is the organization with which Tara Roberts, #RootsTech keynote speaker, dives. Check it out! divingwithapurpose.org
#RootsTech Pro Tip from Kelly Richardson: review every copy/version of a manuscript you come across (and their provenance)!
#RootsTech I'm done for today, but my parting thoughts are:
- being proactive in noting which records will/will not be available at a specific place & time; this helps eliminate unnecessary searches.
- the importance of a research log/a record of what exactly you searched for.
- timelines!
#RootsTech What are the 5 criteria of a Reasonably Exhaustive Search?
There are two significant drivers of it in what you could broadly describe as recorded history.
1) From Scotland to Ireland: the British colonisation that began in 1556 and was essentially completed in 1653.
2) From Ireland to Scotland: an initial wave of refugees from the Great Hunger in...
You may want to look at the YouTube Channel of the Ulster Historical Foundation. Many of their presentations touch on those migrations and have been recorded and uploaded to that Channel.

Check this out! Sounds like a good #genealogy community-building idea! #RootsTech
You know what would be an interesting #genealogy topic that I havenโt seen much about? Migrations between Ireland & Scotland. Some of my ancestry indicates this & Iโd like to know more. ๐ฎ๐ช๐ด๓ ง๓ ข๓ ณ๓ ฃ๓ ด๓ ฟ
Genealogists of Bluesky (and by extension #genchat ):
When you have multiple possible ancestors or โaspectsโ of a family tree you could look at, how do you decide which youโre going to tackle each day? Do you just jump straight in? Have you a list? Locations or thematically? Iโm really curious.
#Genealogy #FamilyHistory #FREE I'm excited to present a live webinar on March 24 hosted by the Allen County Public Library Genealogy Center: "Free Genealogical Resources for New York (and Beyond)" - Please mark your calendar, watch for registration soon! acpl.libnet.info/event/15848150
A #genealogy โmust readโ!
OK, I'm getting tired & I need to do this again tomorrow on Mastodon! Peace out for now, but you'll see an occasional informational post from this account & of course stuff from my personal account! #genchat
I think she kept forgetting her logins.
Doesn't ring a bell.
Hi! Some of us are just hanging out & reminiscing right now. #genchat
There was a lot of other guys! (and gals) #genchat
Our little troll! Well, him & "Save FindaGrave" who was not toxic, just really annoying. #genchat
Omg....I almost forgot about Becks! #genchat
I'm wondering if it was at #genchat that Amy & Jenna started up with the cardigan talke...but I believe they were backlashing at a critic of genealogists.
I'll be sure to spread the word on Mastodon, too. #genchat
So I invite all my fellow #GenChat peeps to take a look at Genealogy SE, to read the help, and think about how using a problem-focused approach can help your #genealogy research. If it's too nerdy for you to join, I get it, but you can still use the Q/A format as a framework for forming your Q.
My #genchat participant tracker from 2018. I've been keeping them since Feb 2018.
#genchat certainly has paved the way for connections on other platforms and at conferences!
