I expected I'd need the whole week to get rid of cross browser issues, but I'm basically done already. Thank you, open web, you've come a long way. Also, thank you PostCSS!

Near the end of my big web project, I'm doing final tests in different browsers and everything looks surprisingly consistent this time! Not surprisingly, the nastiest problem I found was in iOS Safari and of course it was an overflow problem ...
Yes and I'm still mad at German Costco for making Microsoft rename it to "Windows 8-Style UI". And for continuing business in Russia.
I keep catching strays from "technology is neutral" people, so let's set things straight.
1) Technology is not neutral, especially the subset of technology called "algorithms"
2) The form-factor that makes a technology into a tool is not neutral
3) How tools are productized is not neutral

Poorly drawn sketch of a large computing machine connected to electrical wires and three stick figures kneeling in front of it. Text above the stick figures says: "O Deep Thought what is the ultimate answer to the problem of the climate crisis?"
Same sketch, now with text above the machine saying: "You should have stopped burning fossil fuels"
Same sketch, zoomed out to see three smoke stacks and text above the stick figures saying: "How could we have known?"
I'm no artist, but hopefully this gets the point across. A comic in three panels.
My opinions about people (me) complaining about opinions:

I mean Studio Displays are more expensive than my iMac when it was new and basically the same display.
It's been two months on this piece of shit Samsung and I thought I'd get used to it, but this gets me riled up every time. Technology is supposed to improve!!
I had to semi-retire my non pro 2017 iMac (too slow for work, perfect for watching movies) and got myself an Air and the cheapest 27" 4K display I could my hands on and will sit it out until something decent and more affordable will be offered.
So many replies from people disliking fruit because they only know the unripe, looks-optimized supermarket variety π§
what's that? 4000 words on a single CSS class? I've got you :)

It's not like the US army doesn't have practice in replacing heads of state in the name of democracy.
The most incredible thing is that instead of a proper occupying force, it looks like a handful of extras on a tight budget. Watching that 2014 movie, I'm like, but the real army would just swoop in and handle it.
I wanted to write 'instant buy' but the truth is I've been following the creation of this kick ass book and missed that it's for sale now. Thanks for sharing, looking forward to getting my copy π
Of course, as a client, I also don't always know what I want. But I can share our goals, requirements, background and ideas about the scope, plan and possible solutions. Takes maybe half an hour, saves many hours of meetings and emailing.
I know this isn't LinkedIn, but external people compliment us on providing clear and detailed briefings, make me so happy. I've been on the receiving end for most of my career. The thing that always slows down projects from the get-go is a client who doesn't really know what they want.
The text "Read Black Comics" on an inky almost-grey textured background.

To be fair, the crop was somewhat low res, causing hair to look too smooth due to missing detail. But it still bothers me that the default reaction to a photo looking strange is "AI!"
Recently, two coworkers, of which one was in the photo, thought I made it with AI because it looked fake. I showed them the processing steps (white balance, some noise reduction, cropping) and they weren't convinced yet. After I applied Lightroom's super resolution AI they were satisfied π€·
The tech is there forever like that Encarta CD ROM that you lost in 1999, but must be lying around somewhere. Aren't all those models trained by big companies? They're not really open in a practical sense; you can't just retrain them without building a data center and scraping the internet first.
Sam Harris being friendly with Epstein makes sense.
But didn't tech bros vote support this because they believed it's good for business? No, they don't care about money anymore and want to return to some feudal system with harems and slaves and shit.
Would you want web hosting based in Russia, Iran or Saudi Arabia? Seems risky. Same goes for the US.
That even being plausible shows that even if they get rid of their current leadership, the country needs a lot of time to recover their credibility.
- Started on 4Chan, which was used by Epstein & friends for that kind of thing
- Pushed by Maga calling themselves Qanon
At this point it even seems plausible that Pizzagate is part of a bigger conspiracy to make people who believe there's a pedophile ring running the USA look like loonies:
A painting of the Titanic sinking, captioned: the ship can't be sinking, my end just rose 200 feet.
"we just had record-breaking snowfall, how can global warming be real"
And Notion keeps shoving buttons under my cursor, triggering an algorithm that mangles my coworkers' texts. I don't want to see vague summariesβI need to know exactly what they write!
Maybe we should be more specific. LLM, chatbot, slop machine?
