but it wasn’t all bad. nephew + his dad came for a little celebration. in a weird way i lost a sister and gained a brother. nephew helped me blow out candles and told me all about what he’s been learning at school and how much he loves kindergarten. so despite everything… my heart is pretty full 😌
threaten him in the same way she can us about access/custody. not that she actually has a leg to stand on with us, but even less so with him.

we think she is just throwing a tantrum, but he said he’ll take it to court if she tries anything. we’re also getting some legal advice around it all and talking to nephews school.

mum got about 3 words out to me about what had happened and then collapsed in my office. she is ok - it just broke her emotionally.
so i had to call nephews dad and it turns out he had also received an equally vile series of messages. he has assured us that he will never ever let that happen.

yeah, a huge relief. really this was a test to see if there was any hope for change from her. it seems like there isn’t. but at least i won’t be wondering now. she threw everything back in my face but it doesn’t hurt me anymore. my whole family have really rallied for me today so its okay in the end

at the time they were probably weighing up how much buffer there was to p5 if we brought someone in and then failed on the one stop.
it was definitely the conservative approach but as a team with a history of taking wild, emotional gambles i’d prefer it tbh, esp in the first race of the year!
i think they probably just didn’t want to introduce more risk than they needed to. like we also didn’t know initially that mclarens tyre situation was gonna be so ass. and hadjar was still in the race on the first vsc. in the end we probably had time to stop twice and still finish p4 but
race happens as a result if we keep the track position. maybe george cracks the shits and bins it. but that’s entering if my mum had balls territory.
they could have split strategies but it doesn’t materially change the outcome. so i really just don’t agree that it was a failure.
if we pit under the second one, we still finish a few seconds back assuming tyre life stays the same. we were going to lose track position at some point.
realistically the only thing that would have kept us in it was if the first vsc happened later. you can argue that an entirely different
fred has said the first vsc was outside our tyre window for a one stop and we wouldn’t have made it to the end as mercedes did. it would have put us on a two stop, where we lose.
if merc stays out in response they have to pit later, but we have to pit again.
like people do not seem to understand that there’s a reason a lot of gambling advertising comes with a “you win some, you lose more” sort of warning. everyone wants to say roll the dice!!!! but find it unacceptable when our number doesn’t come up in a chance game
every time we gamble and fail people say we take too many stupid risks and every time we don’t we’re too conservative
and then there are days like today where the numbers don’t lie and there was almost nothing we could do. a low risk straight shot to P3-4 was the objectively correct decision
