Henry ’Box’ Brown spoke of the Nubian family in his presentations in 19th c. Britain. The Nubian 25th Dynasty reintroduced ethical governance to an Egypt in decline. Leeds Quaker Wilson Armistead made sure the public knew African history did not start with transsaharan or transatlantic slavery.

We've written a Researcher's Guide to Bluesky!
It's a bit like all those other useful guides to Bluesky, but with several useful insights from University of York academics about using the platform, and we'd love it if it was reposted far and wide...

In the early 80s, Yorkshire born journalist, Peter Fryer, wrote the iconic book ‘Staying Power’ for this exact reason.
In the 1851 🇬🇧census Ellen & William Craft are registered as staying with Wilson Armistead of Leeds. A blue plaque to Abolitionists in Leeds was recently erected by Leeds Civic Trust.

Thousand of years of heritage can be wiped out with a simple name change, seemingly an innocent act on the surface. Misinformation & misrepresentation of ‘others’ are essential tools for stealing, including algorithms, or even a people’s humanity, let alone their bodies, mineral resources & land etc. Challenging layers of obfuscation can be exhausting! But just as Bluesky provides an opportunity to dust off & start again, to build platforms of mutual respect, the question what if… has to arise to defend shared values of a shared humanity. The 25th Dynasty of Nubian Pharaohs reintroduced the ancient wisdom that the Greeks went on to document… in their own way. The Windrush Generation are part of a long history of gold, wisdom, exploitation & resilience. However, the Doctrine of Discovery of 1452 is still a legal document today & the strategies of bullying are still being used today too: African children mine minerals that will take so-called humanity to Mars & as a former US President tries to stop the so-called election steal, a billionaire acquires Twitter to steal algorithms built by millions of people around the world for their own survival - so he could successfully influence an election. Whilst rich enough to build his own platform, the satisfaction of bullying involves stomping on & degrading ’others’ to give the appearance of strength, but is really something else altogether! As Maya Angelou said - “And still we rise”.
Heritage built over millennia - easily wiped out with simple name changes! Misinformation & misrepresentation can help to steal bodies, minerals, land, humanity, justice & yes, algorithms!
MIGRATION to Bluesky offers hope/opportunity to rebuild platforms where shared values & humanity can thrive 👀🤞🏾
