You did a great job of covering the three big issues for those of creating content in this space (pre-Spanish invasion Mesoamerican culture).

La Sirena’s Blessing of Belonging V.M.

I have a new short story out today!

"La Sirena's Blessing of Belonging" is about a girl making a wish to find where she belongs. It's a deeply personal piece about biracial identityβ€”and also a contemporary (slightly futuristic) magical realism story rather than secondary world!

I hope you enjoy ✨

Nice! Here's hoping the other roughly 24 variants of Nahuatl spoken in Mexico gradually find their way into the system, especially Huasteca, Guerrero, Puebla, and Orizaba Nahuatl, each of which has more than 100,000 speakers.

In Mexican & Mexican American slang, we say "ponte trucha" [get vigilant] or "estΓ‘te trucha" [be vigilant]. The "trucha" in these phrases, literally "trout," has a bit of the feel of "woke" in AAVE, as it was originally meant.

So if you want to say "woke" without MAGA understanding, use "trucha."

White and yellow graphic with the logo for Lee & Low Books at the top. The graphic is titled β€œContact the Governor Day - March 2nd”. Contains the following description: β€œOn December 19th, New York state Governor Kathy Hochul vetoed the Freedom to Read Act. In response to this, Lee & Low Books has launched an initiative called Contact the Governor Day. Contacting Governor Hochul will encourage her to prohibit the banning of books and protect the rights of students and educators to access a wide range of literature. Even if you live outside of New York state, you can still write Governor Hochul since the ramifications of her vetoing the Freedom to Read Bill directly impacts those who work for NYC-based companies and publishers.”

Okay so let me get this straight, a oligarch country that elected a suspected pedophile & known rapist over his Christian values, and an illegally nuclear genocidal apartheid nation that keeps electing war criminals to do war crimes, those are the good guys because they bombed a primary girls school

There’s so much cruel bad logic in the real world, why can’t we allow ourselves to do better in the fictional world?

As democrats, as progressives, as people who love democracy and rule of law and fairness and justice and respect for humanity, we have to hold the line on protecting *everyone*. No one gets left behind. Everyone has a right to thrive. When Newsom threw trans folk under the bus, he lost my vote.

I stand w/ my trans family & comrades. In Kansas they're revoking driving licenses. Nationally they're trying to pass a bill that would criminalize any mention of trans folks in kid lit. This is dangerous and violent; a part of a larger strategy.

So the superintendent of LA Unified being investigated by FBI for fraud. More coming out though. He’s being accused of discrimination against white students. I’m seeing a pattern here. This administration is using fraud as a catch all term to round up those who speak out against ICE/47
