And iOS can do it with a click.

There are even human volunteers on Bluesky who will do it for you.

Denying disabled users a simple accommodation is a deliberate political choice to exclude them from accessing your content.

She knows. They all know.

Never mind the other benefits of providing alt text (improved search, added context, often easier to read), disabled people don't matter to them.

They simply don't care about us.

I've found that when I asked for help because I'm disabled and can't understand an image, I get called a "scold."

I've learned that it's more productive to thank followers who provide the missing alt text in the comments, and let them know their extra work is appreciated.

I made a mute list because sometimes (rarely) these accounts do change and start providing alt text.

Though quite a few people have sent me angry DMs or put me on retaliatory lists over the years. Apparently my disability accommodation makes them feel bad, so I'm the asshole. 🀷

4 frame comic. a street journalist is interviewing a tall light brown man with a pink scarf and a tshirt of the band Angine de Poitrine. off-frame, the journalist asks : sir! are you worried about
homophobic parents who
might want to trans their
child rather than have
an effeminate son?
the man replies :
wait wait wait wait wait.
are you implying that some
homophobes might not also
be raging transphobes?
Never heard of that.
trans kids are currently
being hunted down, outlawed,
marginalized from social life,
singled out in their own schools,
and you're asking me about some
hypothetical parent who might
pressure a child into being trans so
they might what? fit in better?
transitioning as a child in-
volves years of determination.
every adult in their life is likely
to cast doubt on who they are. if
they are lucky and have supportive
parents, their families are often
ostracized by their community.
the idea that someone sees the
hardships a family with a trans
child goes through and thinks "they
must have forced it on them"
makes me physically ill.

The idea that opposing and rolling back trans rights is good for cis women and girls is ludicrous on every level and absolutely enraging when applied in legislation and policy that obviously limits and rolls backs rights for ALL women and girls

Blade (1998) is the queerest Marvel movie because Deacon Frost (Stephen Dorff) and Quinn (Donal Logue) were definitely fucking. In this essay, I will

By the book: Alberta schools pull at least 160 titles from shelves to meet provincial order | CBC News Alberta school divisions complying with a provincial order have removed dozens of graphic novels from their shelves, from illustrated versions of literary classics to coming-of-age memoirs and dramati...

What books did Alberta schools *actually* pull off the shelves in response to a provincial order? It took a lot of work to find out. We still don't have a complete picture. And some schools are still pulling material.

Free speech advocates say it's ban unmatched in Canadian history. #AbLeg By me.

also tell them what it means, what about their brains pointed to that diagnosis, who else in their life is autistic (if you don't know any yet, 1. yes you do, and 2. get safe enough they'll tell you), which tv characters they love are autistic, what you love about them that is related to autism...

sorry to be an old-fashioned scold but there is something deeply pathetic about being an adult and shoplifting just because you kinda feel like the rules don't apply to you

Vancouver - what's the cheapest hotel / motel you know of within 30 minutes of VGH that would do 21 day stays?

It looks like trans people in most of the province will have to rent a motel / hotel for 21 days to access bottom surgeries.

Trying to make a good estimate for this.

Evidentiary Pragmatism in Transgender Health Care | AJPH | Vol. 116 Issue 3 American Journal of Public Health (AJPH) from the American Public Health Association (APHA)

It took a hot minute, but I can finally share my new paper on evidentiary pragmatism in transgender health care!

In it, I propose a new principle for evaluating scientific evidence based on the best reasonably achievable evidence, avoiding the β€˜catch-22’ where trans care can never be justified.

I have had to bring peer-reviewed studies to every single trans heathcare professional to prove that what I'm asking for is normal and is a thing that actually exists.

It's genuinely shocking how much misinformation and disinformation they push.

My endo refused to prescribe medication for me and refused to refer me for the surgery I needed.

Fortunately, I was able to discuss my need with my surgeon to get the correct care.

Yeah, there's no one right answer that would suit everyone, but it would be nice if more research and training was done.

Waitlists are yearslong, and there are only three surgeons in the world trained to do the procedure I want, two of which are in the US, and therefore effectively unattainable.

None of these surgeries are required to be trans. None of them confer a higher degree of manliness over other trans masculine people.

All they do is relieve dysphoria and/or deliver euphoria, bringing one's body into alignment with what feels comfortable and right.

That's what makes it worth it.
