Over a decade of abiraterone: the drug that revolutionised advanced prostate cancer care This Prostate Cancer Awareness Month, we’re celebrating over 10 years since abiraterone was first recommended by NICE in England as a treatment for advanced prostate cancer.

At the ICR, we discover more prototype cancer drugs than any other academic institution in the world.

One drug we discovered, abiraterone, has helped to give thousands of men with advanced #ProstateCancer, many more years with their loved ones.

We're remembering Professor Robin Weiss, who passed away last month.

Robin was a pioneer of research into virus-associated cancers and HIV/AIDS, who had a transformational impact on the ICR, as our Director in the 1980s.

As part of this mission, he is exploring opportunities to support Caribbean participation in the PRACTICAL study — a major international consortium bringing together data from over 120,000 prostate cancer cases and 100,000 controls to identify the genetic factors that influence prostate cancer risk.

Sir Clive is launching The Sir Clive Lloyd Healthcare Foundation, focused on improving access to research, diagnosis and treatment for men with prostate cancer across the Caribbean.

We were honoured to welcome legendary West Indies cricketer Sir Clive Lloyd to The Institute of Cancer Research, London, today, as he visited Professor Ros Eeles’ lab to learn more about our world‑leading research into prostate cancer genetics.
