Everyone acting like weβre βbeyond this,β meanwhile last year we had mad scientist-ass shit keeping Adriana Smith on life support to bring a baby to gestation. What feminist utopia do these people think we live in because I sure would love to see it!!!
Seeing people deriding The Bride! for being too heavy-handed in its feminist messaging on the same day The Hollywood Reporter releases an interview with Harvey Weinstein from prison is giving me whiplash.
Hey @thr.com fuck you and fuck your Harvey Weinstein interview. Who gives a FUCK what that piece of shit has to say about anything.
in case you've never seen it, this is Roger Ebert on The Mummy
I, unfortunately, need it.
The Bride! was always going to become a barometer film that people use to make judgment calls about someone, rather than actually engaging to learn why they feel the way they do. As such, I know that I should explain myself further, but... I would prefer not to.

WELCOME TO THE TEAM, BUDDY.
I looooooooove that movie and have been trying to track down one of the prop frisbees for years.
1) Girls wearing trash bags and makeup bandit masks in TIMES SQUARE 2) The Brain Attack scene in THE BRIDE! 3) The Skunks in LADIES & GENTLEMEN, THE FABULOUS STAINS.
If a movie features a scene where a woman disrupts the system and it inspires a bunch of other women to wear her makeup and rage in a similar fashion, it is a movie for me!οΏΌ
Decided it was time to open the schools and talk to the youth about Bound!

(Scary faces leer and reach for the camera in black and white) MONSTROUS MUSINGS The Giant Conspiracy Happening Against YOU By Phil Nobile Jr. I work with a pretty cool and diverse spectrum of employers, staffers and freelancers. Folks of different genders, sexuality, races, backgrounds. I think we're all pretty aligned ethically, morally, and where human rights are concerned, but when it comes to movies, opinions, and pop culture tastes and takes, we're all over the place. And that's great. Sure, I will shake my head at a co-worker's opinion on a movie from time to time. We might even debate our differing positions. It's fun! But I'm becoming increasingly aware that this kind of civil, respectful coexistence is giving way to a troubling, growing line of thinking I see in the world - and, more and more, in horror: "If you disagree with me, something is up." It's not even "you're wrong"; it's "you're only pretending to have a different opinion than mine, which is the correct opinion."
Todayβs Terror Teletype: Thoughts about THE BRIDE!, thoughts about your thoughts about THE BRIDE!, and the weirdly right wing-coded trend of thinking everyone who disagrees with you is just pretending to disagree with you. manage.kmail-lists.com/subscription...
sometimes people ask critics "what is the worst thing you've seen recently" and they expect you to name something bonkers, but in most cases the real soul-suckers are the half-hearted mediocrities. i will always be more excited by a swing-for-the-fences misfire, even if i hate it
The Bride of Frankenstein and Barbie are two of the most recognizable female characters in pop culture, and they're also two of the most understood. Unsurprisingly, their films directed by women at Warner Bros. serve as thematic companion pieces to each other.

A lot of so-called Scream fans didn't learn a damn thing from SCREAM 4.
Kirby supremacy.
You cannot call yourself a progressive/leftist journalist or an activist for marginalized voices while simultaneously publicly aligning yourself with a vocal, transphobic Trump supporter who worships Elon Musk.
AEW needs to hire a backstage reporter named Kayla, STAT!!!

Not enough people saw this fit so Iβm making it everyoneβs problem.
Maggie Gyllenhaal really looked at her husband and said, "I have a role for you in my new movie. You're going to represent all of the self-identifying well-meaning men who are actually do-nothing putzes who would be lost without women saving their ass" and I just think that's neat.
Hate seeing sexual violence depicted on screen and want nothing to do with it because it's super triggering? Correct.
Feel validating catharsis seeing it depicted on screen because it gives you an outlet to work through your feelings? Also Correct.
Somewhere in between? ALSO CORRECT!
Whenever a movie deals with themes of sexual violence, people start making broad generalizations about how survivors "should" or "do" respond to a film. How a survivor reacts to a film featuring SA is the correct response, and sometimes survivors have reactions that are diametrically opposed.
Last night was the @dorianawards.bsky.social for GALECA: The Society of LGBTQ Entertainment Critics. I'm proud to be a voting member, especially when a film like SINNERS sets a new record and Ryan Coogler wins the Wilde Artist of the Year prize.
