Indeed, and there's a fascinating reverse causality too. A lot of engineers who designed tech in the 80s, 90s grew up watching Star Trek and actively based their designs on it. Explains why flip phones were so popular in the US but not elsewhere. They subliminally reminded folks of Star Trek.
