We NEED free, accessible, public events and Car Free Days connect many neighbourhoods, community groups, charities, artists, makers, vendors. This would have been such a loss:

Thanks to @lucymaloney.bsky.social & @seanorr.bsky.social for this motion.

CivicSearchlight is now available for free for everyone, built by the amazing @rorywh.bsky.social for @nationalobserver.com. It allows you to search municipal meetings across the country with keywords, and is really helpful for understanding how a topic has moved through time and jurisdictions. β—β˜ΊοΈβ—

We're lucky good people still choose brutal politics The biggest sacrifice aspiring politicians make in this age of social media is the loss of privacy β€” or even worse, the incessant nasty trolling from people with differing political views.

COPE Councillor Considering Next Steps After Mayor’s False Drug Accusations | The Tyee Ken Sim wrongly accused Sean Orr of dealing illegal drugs and initially let another councillor take the blame.

Within this story from @kehyslop.bsky.social and @jenstden.bsky.social: Former Green councillor Adrianne Carr says she resigned in 2025 in part because of remarks Sim made to her during an in-camera meeting

Vancouver deserves better than Sim’s lies The readiness of Mayor Ken Sim and Coun. Lenny Zhou to slander a colleague is far worse than any harebrained policy they might propose or past controversial decisions they have made.

Politicians like Vancouver Mayor Ken Sim and Coun. Lenny Zhou who spread lies about a colleague for political gain undermine trust in our political system. They don't deserve our respect or votes, @adriennetanner.bsky.social writes.

I've been told that Ken Sim told his team that a stranger waived a physical photo at him during a Chinatown event and falsely claimed that it was Orr dealing drugs on Christmas Day.

The mayor doesn't remember the specific contents or style of the photo, and can't remember who showed it to him.

Canada's care package to Cuba feels thin Carney’s aid package to Cuba is a nod to close ties between our two countries and another signal that Canada is not prepared to do the bidding of the US. But we could and should do more.

Inside the Far-Right Push to Influence Canadian Political Parties | The Tyee A conference call shows a political operative with past Conservative connections advising several white nationalist groups.

There are some troubling undercurrents. I worry that when leaders other certain groups, in this case immigrants, these kinds of sentiments can grow. immigrants thetyee.ca/News/2026/02...

I think countries have a right to set immigration levels. And I agree higher wages would take care of some labour shortages. What I object to is letting people in to work and treating them differently. Charging for services is abhorrent

Danielle Smith keeps feeding the beast If there’s a Pandora’s Box that Alberta's premier hasn’t opened yet, it’s not for a lack of trying.

Most of the premiers in Canada have banded together to face down the threat posed by Donald Trump. Except, that is, for Danielle Smith, who has decided to turn her province's attention to the threat posed by....Ottawa and its immigration policies? www.nationalobserver.com/2026/02/20/o...

I'm not a climate doomer, because that's what the powerful want. They want people to give up and say "it's too late."

Even if it is too late, I'd still rather the world decarbonize if only to fuck up the fossil fuel companies.

If you refuse to believe in a better future, at least believe in spite.
