This space rewards specificity, partnerships, and cultural fluency. It takes more than an interest in gaming. It takes lived experience and strategic insight.

Whilst Iβm no longer with Autistica, they have continued to move mountains for autistic people and be a voice of facts and statistics as the UKβs autism research charity. And if you know me, you know that video games and neurodiversity are about as close to my heart as anything else.

This is one of the coolest creative campaigns I did and it was for a wonderful and vital charity, @autistica.org.uk. What a treat to get this blast from the past and actually really enjoyed watching it with fresh eyes.

The potential is HUGE, but without the right support and strategy, charities can feel stuck, or attempts to connect fall short and are neglected in favour of more traditional and established (the comfort zone) areas of fundraising and awareness.

The potential for mass exposure to new audiences can be daunting, raising concerns about misrepresentation or losing the core message. However, these fears are often unfounded and can be overcome by having better understanding of the space.

Skepticism & Brand Alignment: Some charities and supporters may struggle to see the connection between gaming, streaming, and the cause. One of the key concerns is how the cause can be represented effectively, especially in unfamiliar territory: ie in the gaming/streaming spaces.

Content Creation: Fundraising streams require consistent, high-quality content to keep their audiences engaged. Not all charities have the capacity or resources to create engaging content that gamers & streamers expect & need to support you in the ways that work for them and their communities.

Audience Engagement: Building a community is crucial. Many charities struggle to find ways to connect with gamers and streamers, missing out on the power of a loyal, active community ready to support causes who they resonate with.

Technology Barrier: Streaming requires unique equipment, software. For charities working on tight budgets, this is a challenge. But, you donβt have to stream yourself to make an impact or connection. Most charity fundraising success comes from external partnerships & collaborations.

Lack of in-house Expertise: Charities often lack the knowledge of how gaming partnerships & streaming works. There are many opportunities in the world of gaming & streaming which look amazing from the outside, but can feel completely alien when attempting to step into it without knowledge/expertise.
